Yes.. i agree with the test rides....However, one thing i didn't like about test rides, was that you are stuck with the stock bars, seats, etc.

I have ridden a few other dudes bikes that i really liked a lot, but remembered I didn't like that model on the test rides. The difference was they had changed bars and seats...etc.

So see if you can sit on or ride some other bikes away from the dealer. You can do this by looking in the for sale ads in your local area, and go test ride em...of course depending on your location how much success you will have with that.

or.....if you have some buddies that ride...take em to the bar, get em drunk, then have another buddy give em a ride home in the car while you "do em a favor" and take their bike home

I do like the look of the rocker, but hated the way it sat me.... it was stiff also IMO.

I walked up on a newer model fat boy the other day...and i tell ya. It was a beautiful bike. They have a hell of a ride as well.

For a good mix of comfort and style I like the fat boys.
For handling and speed I like the dynas....especially the fatbobs.

Oh...and don't think you can't find a great deal out there on a pre-owned bike. Some of the later models are goin at pretty good deals.
Lots of repo's ...

whatever you get... ride the **** out of it.

Good luck!

ps... call me if you do that. I will gladly hang out the car window on a free drunk and yell embarrassing **** at you while you ride my bike home.

I set mine up with a touring seat and passenger floorboards. With that and a good sissy bar my wife is comfortable and happy..............when she rides.

The dyna is built for better performance in many aspects.

It's lighter and when it's hot rodded you can rev the motor higher with out damaging any counter balances.

Oh and dynas give you that nice raw rumble vibration of a Harley.

I think either way you go you will be more satisfied than being on that Suzuki. I would definitely take them both out if possible. Base it on the best combination of comfort, performance and looks for YOUR OWN personal tastes. Everyone is different in what they need to feel like they are on the right bike.

Default Dyna?

A fair question. I have a 08 Street Bob, it rides nices, handles well, has the good Harley rumble. Took my wife for her first two up and she like the ride but reported vibrations from the passenger foot pegs. From what I read hear the Softail would not have that. I like the rear fender on a Softie, If you are doing mostly single riding the Dyna would be my choice. More than 1/2 2 up or lots of long 2 up trips, then the Softail. Nothing wrong with either bike, made for different purposes and styles.

The vibration in the footpegs is because HD, in thier infinite wisdom, decided to move the pegs to the swing arm. Stupid, real stupid IHO. I had a bike back in the 80's that had them this way and the girlfriend would always complain about her feet. Especially when I hit a big pothole. Everything the rear tire felt went right into her feet. Had I noticed this prior to buying the 2007 Wide Glide I would have choosen the Softail Custom. Oh well, not really a big problem for me since the misses will not let me sell the 2000 Suzuki VL1500 as she is more comfortable on that. But will be getting a Street Glide or Ultra in a year.

[quote=HD 472;5418018]Dynas are a little easier on the wallet and softies take little more of a bite out of it...

Dynas are cheaper if you keep the bike stock.. My Dyna with a 103 ci Stage 4 was not very easy on my wallet.

I rented several of each Softail and Dyna when I started riding in 07... I like the Dyna better, mostly because of the engine & engine mount. I like the adjustable spring on the rear as well.... As for 2 up, I think the seat and pegs is what that's all about....

I test rode both when I traded my Sporty. If you are coming off a metric you will like the handling of the Dyna. When I test rode them it was like comparing a sports car and a sedan.
The wife doesn't complain about the vibration and says it is alot more comfortable than riding the Sporty. I think the SG Custom is the best value for the buck.

I had a '98 Super Glide for ten years then traded it in for a '08 Deluxe. The Dyna definitely handles lighter and has better cornering clearance but the Softail especially with the FL front end tracks nicely down the highway. It has a much smoother ride. As for appearance everyone's going to like something different...Good luck. At least it's a Harley
