I was just out at another forum looking around and there was a guy there claiming to have gotten 62+ MPG while going on a long trip traveling between 70 & 80 mph.
Me thinks his math is off just a little bit.

Ride it like you stole it and don't worry about the mileage. You'll do that eventually anyway.

I was running into the same problem on mine up until about 600 miles. Now I seem to be getting about 42 mpg and that is at 850 miles. The only fuel problem I have now is my silly little fuel light keeps coming on progressivly sooner. First refuel it came on and I put 3.8 gallons in her, the last time it came on about 2 days ago I only put around 2.7 gallons of gas in it. Now I am wondering about how many miles do you guys pull from a tank?
I have a Low Rider. The fuel guage is eratic on it to. It will come on at 50% on the gauge. I check the gauge then look at the trip. I go by the second trip od. I reset it at every fillup.

Last fillup I did 198.7 miles. My tank is suppose to be 4.7 gal. I put in 4.666.

That's 42.58 miles to the gal.

Only time it ever went below 40 is when I was running Syn 3 for two weeks. Changed to Mobile V-Twin and things went back to normal.

I didn't even start checking it until it had a 1000 miles on it.

Yea it'll get better when it loosen's up,,,wait till you get like 1500 on the clock,,then change over to a good syn(I use red line)you might want to put there shock proff heavy duty in your trany,,,its the best thing you can do for your bike,,,ask an expert...but back to mpg,,,,check it out man,,,I've riden my 02fxd sence new,,its got like 40thou now,,,but Ive been on these tech sites for years,,and Ive made lots of changes after head work and and bigger valves/s-s510gCams 95"build ,,,I get like 37mpg average,,my high can be low 40's,,low is like 35,,,,now that I just put in the new Baker DD6 trany,,,I get better on the freeway....

My milage started like yours,, 32 to 36mpg at best.. Now I'v got 4000 miles it, and just got back froma 1500 mile trip. Mostly highway speeds but a lot of twistys up highway 7 and into and around Table Rock Lake,,,Beautiful ride.. Then over into Kansas and then south to Houston.. worst case was 41mpg best case was 52mpg, averaged out to about 45mpg.. I think I can live with that...... It gets better as you ride.....

what up Guys, to re-kindle an old thread, I rode my bike about 220 miles yesterday taking my total milage up from 550 to about 770, I have been real dissapointed with my milage so far(yes it matters to me) On my way to Pensacola I checked the milage and it was up to 36 mpg, this is 7mpg better than I have seen so far and made me pretty dang happy. On the way home I checked again and it is up to 44mpg[sm=groupwave.gif]. I guess all you guys that said it had to break in and it would get better were dead on the money. Somewhere along the way on this last trip the whole engine, drive train, exhuast sound seemed to coalesce (sp) as one and the bike seemed to run better, accelerate better and idle better, all around much smoother and more what I expected. All you guys with low milage and questions about performance, mine sure got better as the bike broke in.

I'm running around 45 mpg +/- with over 7K miles. The other day I was removing some polish from the tank when I bumped the gas guage. The darn thing came out. I could pick it up about an inch. I put it back. Did not force it, just replaced it. Ask my service manager about it and he said no big deal it's in a hollow tube. Apparently he was right. It hasn't leak or jumped out or any thing. The only thing I have noticed is before my low fuel light came on at just above 1/8 tank at about 150 miles. Now it is comming on a little below 1/8 tank at about 160 miles. I was wondering if I have moved the sensor or what ever. But like the man said, it has not caused any problem.
