Default Crap... now she wants her own!

My wife was totally against me getting a bike a few months ago and swore she would never ride on it if I did get one. Now i have the wide glide, she's been on it (only about 100 miles) and now she's already talking about "needing her own". What the heck is up with that? I am prepared to buy her a nice seat, sissy bar, and backrest but all she can talk about is how she has to "stare at the DOT sticker on my helmet" and how her view is a "silhouette of me + a little in her peripheral vision.".

Not sure what I have done but I seriously do NOT want her riding. I watched her run into a fence on a bicycle a few years back and I know she doesn't have the coordination to ride a bike. She seems almost hell-bent though.

Hoping I can win this one. Any suggestions on how I can make her "happy enough" with riding as a passenger? Maybe I could remove that DOT sticker, or go with a low profile helmet?

Good luck. Maybe the MFS course will show her that she is not coordinated enough to control a motorcycle. Even with all the extras she will still be putting up with the limited view.

Also tell me what she says about her feet after a couple of hours on the WG. I did a short four hour trip with my daughter on the bake and she loved it except her feet were killing her. Seems HD took major steps backwards when they mounted the foot pegs on the swing arm.

Let her get her own ride. A 250 or something... (with training wheels ) And buy her the best in protective clothing and a topnotch helmet. Fu** I think most ppl have problem with the opposite. Getting the wife to want to get her own ride.

We are going to do the MSF together. I want to see her on a bike. I hope she doesn't die at 10mph.

We did the foot test. She made it 25 miles and was bitching about her feet hurting. She was wearing full length leather cowboy boots though, not sure if they played a part of not. With tennis shoes she made it about 50 miles and said her feet were fine, but she was uncomfortable overall.

You may have to compromise and trade the Wide (perish the thought!) for one of those baggers with the queen seat perched up high where she can look over the top of your head.

I found when I was married my wife at the time rode her own bike and was more apt to go on long rides, we toured Nova Scotia etc. But now that I am with a new lady that likes to ride only on the back of my bike and has no desire to get her own, anything more than 100 miles, she gets restless and wants to always stop and do other things. Like miniature golf (YUCK) I would say if she takes the MC course and you feel she can handle a bike, let her go for it. It is nice riding alone on your own bike yet still have her with you.

Thumbs up

A training course is the best way. Let others teach her how to ride, while you stand back and chew your nails! That way she gets to find out if she can ride OK and you don't fall out with each other because she is not doing what you tell her.

My wife went through a similar experience and has her own Dyna, so be warned! But we just had a 2,500 mile touring holiday on my Glide, so we both win.

Think calm thoughts.....
