ok... so i am trying to figure out how to mount my fairing on the bike... i have ordered all my speakers, components, sub, amps, docking hardware and all that crap to design and glass my inner fairing, but before i can do anythign i need to get it to conect to the forks... i do not want to tear apart my windshield cause i still want to use it... anyone have any idea's? i called HD and they said i can buy the clamps for 31.95 a piece... not too bad but i dont really want to spend that for 4 clamps. figured i would ask if any one had any ideas? i do want it to be able to be removed fast and not leave any hardware behind. if anything does anyone know where i can get some windshield quick release clamps for a bit cheaper? or have a old scratched up shield they want to sell? i am down for any ideas here... it is getting colder and i want my scoot ready for this winter riding season...
The HD quick disconnects are really nice - personally, they're worth the $$$. Absolutely nothing is lefton the bike when you remove the screen, so if you're trying to do the same thing with a small fairing, I think they're the only game in town.
Check some of the bike salvage places. Here's one in Lynnwood, WA and you could email them to see if they have the quick release clamps for cheap. http://www.bentbike.net/parts.php
Hey Joe I used my quick detach mounts to put my fairing on, you can change the mounts from one to the other in a couple of minutes. Word of advice when making your brackets use some thin metal to position the fairing so you can tweek it around to get it in the spot, then fab up some heavy duty ones. Hope you have a friend to help, I had to do my by myself and it was a pain in the butt. Hope it works out for you , good luck. 88 later.
