Default Dyna Forward Control Brake Pushrod Part Number

Does anyone know the part number for the brake pushrod for forward controls that fits on a 1999 FXDX?

I have gotten a kit, 49080-03A, which is supposed to be for '93-'05 Dyna™ models. But they gave me a pushrod with part number 41955-03, and it doesn't fit due to a lateral bend in the rod. The bend hits the brake kit mount.

Doing some check online, I have found replacement parts with the same part number but they do not have the bend in the rod.

Thus, I ran out of ideas and came here for some help.

Default forward control brake rod

According to the mounting instructions from kit # 49080-03A the brake rod in this kit has p/n 41955-03A (see att 1)

According to ChicagoHarley.com database there are three types of brake rods (see att 4):
41955-93, 41955-03 & 41955-03A

Using 41955-93 in a search query at Google I found some pics of the first two p/n's (see att 2&3)

At Ebay I found a picture of a 1999 FXDX (see att 5). As far as I can see, this bike has the straight brake rod.

Based upon this info, my guess is you need the brake rod with p/n 41955-93. If you want to be sure, ask the parts guy at your local H-D shop

There's an auction at Ebay for a 1999 Dyna WG fwd ctrl set http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT (see pic).

You could ask the seller if he knows the p/n of this brake rod

Dear FXD2003Rider,

I really appreciate your help. Thanks for doing such a detailed search.

Unfortunately, the straight rod will not really fit, because from the picture, the point where the brake pushrod joins the brake lever is much lower in that kit compared to the HD kit (which you've attached the instructions for), so a straight rod fits there. Why it cannot fit on the FXDX is because near the mid-kit mount (as you can see in the instructions, near the middle with two holes) there is an exhaust mount, which may/may not block the straight rod. From the instructions, the brake pushrod shown looks like it has a Z bend in it, which raises the slotted end higher (maybe to bypass the exhaust mount?).

I've asked some dealerships around in the US, and it may be superceded or old part no 41955-03. So far one has said that they can order, but I asked them to confirm the shape of the pushrod first. Another has also suggested 41955-93, but I doubt it. Am going to check it again when I see my bike this coming weekend.

And again, many thanks for your help.

And I found a similar picture, just that this is for the extended kit. But the shape is similar.

Can be found here.

Found another picture showing a brake rod from a fwd ctrl kit. It seems to me that the rod is positioned in the same way as it is on the bike (see Clevis pin); the bend causes it to go up and out a little, probably just enough to bypass the exhaust mounting bracket.

Yes that's the one. Glad you found a picture, I googled my *** off and couldn't find any decent pic, some I found made the dealership guy say it's just a camera angle. -.-"

after one week and no sight of resolution in the near future.

raked up quite a bit of confusion.

seems that the part i received 41955-03A may have been two parts, one new one old (and I need that old one). The new one is the one with the side bend, the old one is with the Z bend. Some advised that the part number is 41955-93, results shows two different rods, one which i need with the Z bend, the other one 1 which is straight.

Freaking confusing.

An update.

I really think the brake rod is evolved (can such a thing happen)

Look at the pics attached.

Those are the kits 49080-03A and 49080-06A and 49021-09

All the brake rods have the same part number, 41955-03A.

I give up. Quit HD parts and hello Kuryakyn.
