There is nothing wrong with the pre-06 models. The left side crank bearing was switched to a roller in i believe 2003. so 99-03 models still have the timken bearing and the TC engine. And for all intents and purposes there is absolutely no problem with the roller except if you build your engine to exceed 110hp. Past that it tends to allow the crank to "walk" and cause problems. I personally own a 99 Dyna Wide Glide and love my bike. Havent had any problems with it and its a great bike. I would say dont automatically exclude any Pre-06 just because everybody says that the 06 and up are "better"

The Timken is a roller bearing too, just a different type than what Harley uses now.

This guy gives a good explanation of the difference and under what conditions the Timken is the better bearing and why Harley probably switched to the INA. Note he says 120 rear wheel horsepower. Thus, for a totally stock Big Twin, the INA bearing is more than adequate.

Thank you Gary7. Its nice to see someone on here that knows a thing or two. Also to clarify i meant a straight floating roller bearing as opposed to the timken bearing which is a pressed on set of bearings that limits crankshaft endplay.

They also offer a timken bearing conversion kit that runs around $500. If you really want more than 110hp your gonna be going into the bottom end anyway so its not that big of a deal to have your case converted with the timken kit.

The INA crank bearing is inadequate not only for high horsepower, but also high mileage engines. So as long as you're not going to modify your engine, or put many miles on it, you're golden.

+1 on the year H-D switched to the roller. Checked my parts catalog (Dyna 2003 models) for the type of main bearing. The p/n is 24604-00C.
Searching Googgle for this p/n I found the info as shown in the attachment. This makes me think '02 was the last year the Timken was used.

try telling that b.s. to john at darkhorse crankworks or revperformance. they both use and recomend the s.e. ina roller bearing. headquarters uses them in 120s,check your facts before spreading your fiction.
