Default In over my head......

I hate giving my wife ammunition, but she's laughing at me on this one. She said there was no way I'd be able to do this myself. She might be right.

Bought used forward controls on ebay part # 49080-03. No directions. Got some on-line and attempted the install.

Ran into a couple of problems/questions.

After I disconnected the old linkage, I was left with the two points that it was connected to. Obviously, the rear one is the transmition shift lever and will be connected to the new shift linkage. What do I do with lever that the front of the old shift linkage was connected to? See first photo.

Here is my second issue. I think this is an upgraded shift linkage so the diagram in the instructions doesn't match exactly. I am unsure of how to connect the new linkage to the transmission shift lever. Do I have all the necessary hardware? How is this done? I'm having trouble visualizing it. See second photo.

Thanks in advance.

I can only imagine the problems I'll encounter tomorrow on the other side of the bike.

Many threads and opinions on the foot pedal shifter lever. You can leave it in and secure it some how so it won't move. You can remove the outer primary cover and cut the shaft then remove lever from back side. Or you can remove inner primary and outer primary cover and remove the shaft the right way also you may have gotten a longer arm to mount on the transmission ( will make it easier to get into neautral ) but has to be done with the primary removed. At this point all you will have left is the hole in the primary cover where the shifter came through for that you can get a small plug from the dealer or hardware store. The hole should not leak beacuse there is a gasket between both the covers. The other side is easier

I have the cover for the shaft. My question is about where the front of original linkage connected. You can see it leaning towards the front of the bike in the first picture. This connection point is no longer needed as the new linkage will now extend beyond there to the new forward shifter location.

I also am having trouble visualizing how the new linkage connects to the transmission shift lever. The second picture shows what hardware i have and the linkage. The transmission shift lever is threaded so the screw will go into it, but I'm uncertain of how the hardware should be arranged (use and order or washers or whether I even have all the necessary hardware.)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Benwiggen- That thread is for the installation of '06 and newer forwards. My bike is an '05. I've read those instructions and they don't address the two issues I'm having.

There is no mention of the original mid control front linkage connection and/or what to do with it after the original linkage is removed.

I can connect the new linkage to the transmission shift lever, but I won't know if I did it properly or in a way that I can confidently ride the bike.

What would help is a close-up of the rear linkage connection point on another bike with forwards. One that has upgraded shift linkage and the correct hardware for its installation.

The guy gave me a socket head screw and two washers...no nut. The hardware he supplied can be seen in the second of the two photos I posted.

Here's a link to the Kuryakyn forward control installation. Hopefully it may give you some insight for your application

Seems to me like you have two of the same ball joint. You need to either replace it with one that has a stud, or find a bolt that will go through your excisting ball joint and threads into the transmission shifter.

It looks like you have all the hardware to install the rear of the linkage. That allen bolt goes through the heim joint and screws into the tranny arm. Put the lockwasher on the bolt, then the flat washer, then put the bolt through the heim joint and screw it into the tranny arm. As for the original linkage through the primary, I'd leave it there and put the little cap over it on the outside. After I made sure I liked the forwards, remove it or have it removed the next time you have the primary apart. You can do this with the help of everyone here, just take your time and ask questions if you need to. Kelly.
