Default inner primary... what a mess!

well... parts came today, so i cracked into the inner primary, my goal was to put on the new clutch spring, new anderson pulley, check the cam chain tensioner, weld the bolts on my charging system, and put in the new inner bearing.... but... nothing ever works out as planned... first off... HUGE thanks to Chad (redrubicon) for coming by and Don (theDON) for some over the phone advice! Tweeken, was AWESOME to have the right tools man! huge thanks!

everythign came apart pretty simple... problems where... alot was gone... my shifter shaft seal was done.. no big deal ill get a new one...
IF YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED YOUR INNER PRIMARY BEARING -> DO IT!!!!
mine was so screwed up that the inner race had moved against the trans output shaft... the race had actually smashed itself into the seal and the clutch must have had a whoble... so i was able to find an old gear puller my dad used before electricity was invented to pull his superglide clutch in the 70's... chad welded that to the race, and we where able to pull it off... sounds like it took 2 min... well it did not, i then had to fish out all the old parts that where left in there. the Baker high torque bearing comes with all the good stuff i need to replace it... i still need to get a new shifter shaft bearing, trans output oil seal, and starter shaft o-ring and i should be able to button it up. Turns out all that oil i was blowing all over my buddies riding behind me was not only from a tower gasket, but also my shifter shaft seal, and the trans output gasket... the trifecta!

she is still in parts. here are some pics of our night

SOME good news! no bolts to weld! it is one solid piece

you can see how far on the race had been forced

getting the clamp lined up to pull off the race

welding the clamp on to try and pull off the race

chads prize for awesome welding

what was left of my trans oil seal

here she sits waiting till tomorrow and some more parts come in!

Wow! That is a bummer about the parts but at least you know it now and not down the road.

I've ran across that before tearing into a transfer case on my cruiser. Not fun.

How many miles do you have the on the scooter?

Joe, I've had those IPB races against teh trans a few times. Its faster to take a dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel and cut a groove in the race, then split the race with a hammer and chisel. You can usually stick a screw driver in the split, smack it with a hammer, and the race slides off like butter. Takes about fifteen minutes

Also, you have a pic of the rotor, not the stator that needs to have the screws welded. How's the other parts look?

I mentioned that to Joe last night. Thats exactly how I replace the bearing retainers on my Jeep axles.

Once we started pulling it, we found out it was sitting inside the outer shaft about 1/4" so I dont know if it would have worked because we wouldn't have been able to cut very much of it. It might have still cracked though. I guess there really is more than one way to skin a cat.

yes sir they work great for the table, and i can take them apart and stack them when i am not using it. Milk crates can old over 1000 pounds each, pretty amazing... i used to use them as squat boxes in college, even dropped 425 off my back while squating onto one and it did not even crack... very impressed... there are 10 total under that table, very secure. My real hydrolic table grew legs when i let a friend borrow it and he skipped town... i am in the process of making a new one using a snowmobile lift... just no time to finish!

Box squats? I did not know you trained. I would have to put a pad or something on a crate to use it for squats, those things would kill my rear end.

Glad you caught those issues before they caused a major problem but I swear I am going to have to stop reading this forum or I am going to worry myself to death every time I ride.
