Default Yeah....About those tires....

I searched and found several posts/threads on the subject.

The problem is, it's hard to determine what the final results are.
For example, I see that some say you can put a 180 on, but some say not to because if your rim is not wide enough, then it reshapes the tire and puts stress on the bead too....some say it's fine depending on the tire.
Others say use a 170 and it's just as wide as some of the 180's....some say a few of the 180's are as wide as the 200's in reality....etc.

Also, some say metzler, some say avon, some say Continental...

So now that it's been a while for those of you who purchased certain types/brands...what's your opinions and experiences of what you chose?

I have stock 2007 FXD wheels...and would like to know the following:

1. What is the widest tire I can use safely on the front and rear with the stock rims?
2. What brand and size did you choose, and how has it held up/performed?
3. Where and what cost for yours?

A 180 is as big as you can safely run on the stock wheel and you are limited to 2 choices.

SE 180
Pirielli Night Dragon

These are designed to go on a 4.5 inch rim. They made them for the 04 SE Duece but the new Dynas run the same size wheel.

I have had the SE 180 for about 4000 miles now and it has held up and performed well for me. I will most likely go with the Night Dragon next since you can buy it cheaper and the reviews so far have been good.

I just installed the Night Dragons (front and rear) on my 2007 FXD. Did the instalation myself and I have a few hundred miles on them now. I am very happy with them and they fit fine. It seems to handle better but it's hard to say since my old rear tire was totally worn out. I got the set of Night Dragons from Pinwall Cycle for about $253 shipped so I saved a bunch over the SE tire. Also installed Ride-On tire sealant at the same time.

I just installed the SE 180. It feels great, has a nice wide stance and looks good. Major improvement over the stock.

What do you need tires for? Freight trains have steel wheels, why cant you?

Replaced the stock rear K591 at 5500 miles with the Dunlop D407 (170/60/R17). Have 8500 on the D407, with about .25" of tread depth left. Still have the stock front tire on... almost to the wear bars... it will be a new front in the spring.

Very impressed with the D407... great wear, and it still lets me scrape pipes & pegs.

Love my Metzeler ME880's in stock size, when I wear these out I'll get another set. I forget where I ordered them from though, I googled to find the best price though.

I think Bberck's post had the key info, but I'll chime in. I just put the SE 180 on the back (well, 4k ago). Looks great, handles great, cost too much.

What I'll add is this: don't fall for the MoCo's stuff about needing a wiring harness kit and all the subsequent kits in order to get the wires away from the wider tire. Just put it on, it fits fine.

I have the SE Dunlops front and rear.It looks good and the bike handles great my only complaint is the front seems to be wearing faster than the rear.I wonder what the recommended tire pressure would be for a 06 Dyna with the SE Dunlops .
