Default 06 or o6A inner case

How can I tell if I have a 06 or 06A inner case? Is the number casted in somewhere or is it inside the case? Has anyone in Cincinnati had this done at Tri-County H.D.

You're likely to have the stock "-06" cases with no dowels; I don't know where the p/n is cast into the parts, but I'm sure it is inside and out of view without opening it up.

The dead give-away for IPB failure is a whirring noise with the bike idling in neutral and the clutch lever out. My second failure was subtle, but I could amplify the noise that was there by doing the following:

1) Idling in neutral, pull in the clutch. If your bearing is very bad, you'll hear the whirring noise roll to a stop.
2) Tap into 1st gear; this will immediately silence any whirring if you didn't let it roll to a complete stop.
3) With the clutch still in, shift back to neutral.
4) Roll on about 500 RPM above idle, then release the clutch. If you hear the whirring noise spin up as you release the clutch, your IPB is shot.

What I'm calling a whirring noise sounds like either a bad throw-out bearing in a [manual shift] car -OR- a steel rollerskate wheel free-spinning...you'll know it when you hear it. When/if the service tech tells you that all Dynas sound like that, challenge him to replicate the noise with any Dyna in their showroom. Search out my thread, "Finally, Good News...." for all you'll need to know about the issue.

Man I wish I would have known this when I had it replaced. I complained about it several times but the dealer said that they couldn't find anything. Then, after I was out of warranty, they found it and they would only pay for the part not the labor. Now I find out that the 06 has a problem. It sucks to be me!

So far no stator issue or IPB for me. But I may just replace my stator this Winter if I get bored. If I do I am also going to get the SE compensator set up and the new updated Regina chain tensioner.

Considering my bike is out of warranty, what would I be looking at as far as price goes in parts and labor to get this fixed? I take it that it is a big job to have done...

Think parts (bearing, gaskets, fluids) are about $130 and 2 hres labor.

Did you call/write Harley and get a reference number? They might eat the cost even if the bike is out of warranty.

I spent more than that, about 100 bucks in gaskets and fluids, 120 for the power pulley, 35 for the bearing, and 25 for the barnett clutch spring... was A HUGE DIFF when it is all back together!

Slight thread hijack...Joe, why the Barnett spring over the SE? I'm thinking about doing the regear on mine and throwing a spring in there while I'm at it. Just have seen the SE spring used/recommended a lot.

Sintax; HD will pay for the fix even outside of warranty. Arm yourself with the "Pink Letter", and call HD Cust.Svc. in Milwaukee. The Pink Letter is a de facto admission that HD knew of an IPB problem. The fact that they later rescinded it with the second letter doesn't negate this fact. Again, thoroughly read my May '09 thread (referenced earlier) before proceeding. Both letters are posted at the end of the referenced thread. When you call HD, just act like the second one doesn't exist...and be nice!
