Default Windshield Help - FXDC - Buffeting Experience Please

With cooler weather approaching, I'm in search of a windshield but have no tolerance for buffeting. HD designs their shields for looks (not always good) and seems to have no wind-testing involved in the process. So, no HD shields for me...at least based on my experience.

Bike is an 09 FXDC with stock bars. Prefer to look over the shield rather than through it. Looking for recommendations from other FXD(C) owners. I'm about 6' tall and wear a full-face helmet in cooler weather. I've done a search and see lots of recommendations but most without comment regarding buffeting. Would some form of "lowers" help?

I have a V-rod touring shield on the shelf in the garage. Came with my V-rod (traded it in for the SGC). Tried it one time. It was a huge sail mounted on the front forks and made my helmet warble so hard at e-way speeds I had to pull off and find side-roads.

Thanks for your advice.

Mike

I had a similar experience with a HD quick detach shield, the head bobble was so bad I couldn't ride on the highway. Get a 16" Windvest. They're expensive, but you can find them from time to time on Ebay for a lot less. That shield is awesome, good chest protection (you'll look over it) and ZERO buffeting. I only got rid of mine because I bought a fairing off a T-Sport.

I ride a 2009 FXDC and am about the same height as you. Also wear a full face helmut. Use a HD QD windsheild and have not noticed any buffeting even up to 100+ mph. I haven't ridden in really cold weather yet so I can't comment on how well the sheild protects against the cold but am happy so far.

John...which HD shield are you using? Do you look through it, or over it? Thanks.

Mike,

I don't know if you are up for it or not, but having read several threads on the forum regarding buffeting, it often comes down to a small adjustment. A fork bag, lower wind deflectors, a different helmet, etc. Sometimes a small thing makes a big difference. I personally have minimal buffeting with my standard QD HD windshield. Oh, and I look over my windshield.

I also ride an 09 FXDC. I ride with the 19" Memphis Shade and its great. Only time I get buffeting is when there is strong winds. Oh by the way I live in Kansas so theres always strong winds.

I ride an 08 FXDC with the Harley QD windshield. I don't have any problems with buffeting. I look over the windshield.

09 with HD's QD and no significant buffeting up to 100mph. If I'm tired, I slump
and look through the very top of the windshield otherwise I just barely look over
it. I used to get noticeably more buffeting on my Sportster with the same type
of windshield and the same helmet.

I'm 6 foot, 210lbs.

I have a 2009 Fat Bob with the HD/QD standard height windsheild ,I look thru it becouse I'm short . I have a tool bag on forks wear a half helment "ACC Head Trip" I get ZERO buffeting even up to 115 MPH on a closed course. It did take me a few times to get used to looking thru the sheild.

Goodluck.
