Default 16" apes on an FXDC...comfort?

Thinking about putting on 16" Paughco apes on my FXDC. How uncomfortable will they be vs. the stock bars? I am 6' 285lbs. will they bother my arms much? I had a Nightster with 29" broomsticks and 6" risers prior to owning this bike. any comments...thanks...

I ran 14's on my Shovel for many years and really liked them. They are not long distance bars, as no apes are the premium touring bars, but for days around the 100-200 mile ventures, I had no problems. Once your arms get above your heart, you will eventually encounter your hands going numb. But that still takes quite a while. I'm running the 10 inch baby apes now and sometimees I miss the taller ones.

edit: Oh wait, I did run 16's, I forgot. When I put my springer on I ran 12 inch'ers with 4 inch risers. Thats like 16's, and I'm the same 6 feet as you. Same hold true though.

I know a lot of you guys have, and prefer apes...but ths is a fashion statement I'll never understand. Especially at the expense of handling and ride comfort beyond the first 50 miles.

I'm 6'1" and run 16's on top of 1.5" risers. It's VERY comfy.

"Ths is fashion statement I'll never understand."

You've lost me??? My hands start to go numb within a hundred miles with tall apes. Yours don't?

Beginning of sept, I rode the dragon with 16's. I found it easier to maneuver the bike compared to my bud with t-bars who seemed to have to muscle his bike into the turns.
