Some people just have an innate need to find out just what their machine can do. I've probably only been there a half dozen times and cruising at 65mph is usually just fine but occasionally, you just have that 'need'.
Just like with cages, if you never go near the edge, you will never know where it is and you also will never know what to do when you get there accidentally. It's a great benefit to learn the capabilities and limits of your vehicle, no matter what it is.
fastest I went was 105 in the wide open desert, nothin in front of me as far as the eye could see, just did it once to see what she would do. I didn't have anything like that happen to me though.
Since he's talkin in clicks he might be in Europe somewhere. When I lived across the pond there were times when I was doing 90+ just to keep up with traffic and not get ran down.
My '01 is carburated and dialed in on a dyno. On the dyno it does 147 and on the road it will peg the 120 speedo. I have the SE ignition modual. As for going that fast, the Greatful Dead said it pretty good-
It takes dynamite to get me off
Too much of everything is just enuff
Just one more thing that I gotta say
I need a miracle every day.
I'll have to say that I'll leave the 100+ mph to others. I left my speed days in the past. My last speed run was a couple of months ago on my son's crotch rocket. 115 mph the last time I looked down.

I don't know what speed our Dyna tires are rated for, but in the old days, the Honda cars that I worked on would hit the rev limiter at 115 because thats what the tires were rated at, could be the same deal here....
I'm probably plenty stupid for doing it, but what a rush, It comes on so fast. So I'll say it.
Yesterday I had mine to 110 twice on an empty road in the middle of nowhere and both times I was the one who backed it off. It was running fine, and still pulling. Nothing weird, but I was the one crappin out. That was the goal I set for doing it, and I didn't intentionally need to to feel what a rev limiter, broken belt, or blown tire would be like at that speed. Who'd want to stay there anyway? 70-80 is just fine thank you. All this talk about rev limiters, theoretical limits, dyno limits, blah, blah. My bike isn't stock by quite a bit, but it still has a stock ignition. At that altitude I don't need any more RPMs. What for?
Anyway, the first time, I forgot to check the tach to see where it was and how close to the limiter it was. Second time, same story. Oh well. Didn't want to look down too long and miss seeing a 4th of July camper or a logging truck pulling out. Now that would have been scary.
