I took the idler cable off my FI Springer the day I got it home. Pulled the backing plate off to access the throttle body and I simply moved the throttle cable into the slot where the idler cable was. Took up the slack that remained after removing the idler cable. Can't feel any difference and it looks a lot cleaner with 1 fewer cable hanging from the bars.

To have one less cable running up to your handlebars. Just cleans up the look slightly, and it's Free.

I had a lot of extra play(maybe 1/4-1/3 turn) that couldn't be adjusted out. By moving the cable to next slot, that took the extra play out. Throttle action still works like normal.

I ride all year long, and last winter rode to work in the rain, over night the temp fell below freezing, my cables froze, and the idel cable broke trying to get them unstuck, I rode all winter before replacing the cable. The only problem was that the throttle needs the cable to act as a stop; otherwise the throttle will turn backwards.
