To have one less cable running up to your handlebars. Just cleans up the look slightly, and it's Free.
Ok Then why do they put it there in the first place if ya don't really need it. I thought it was there to make the throttle spring back to idle. If it's not there does the throttle still spring back to idle.
I got another question which actually happened to me last month. My throttle cable broke when thankfully I was only a mile from home. If this would of happened in the middle of no where would there be a way to rig it so that you could use the other cable if one of them broke, throttle or idle.

That's a good question my guess would be that if both cables are the same lenght, and the little ***** are the same size; you would be able to rig it to work. I don't know for sure never tried it!!!

I believe the 'pulley' on the throttle body is itself spring loaded which allows it allows it to spring back to idle.

Then if you don't need both cables and they are both the same maybe they put 2 on so you would have a spare when one of them breaks. But I know for a fact it would be a real pain to try to fix it on the side of the road with out a decent tool box along.
