Hey guys, I need some help. I have a 2009 fxd and bought rush slip ons from fuel moto this week. My stock mufffs came off easy but I had big trouble bolting on the new rush baloney cut muffs. You have to fit them to your header pipes and that bracket under the pipes. You have no slack when you wrench it all together. Well, my problem is that now matter what I do the end of the bottom pipe (where the slash out is) comes to within one sixteenth of an inch from the upper pipe. I do not want to bend any Harley brackets or put tension on the muffs where they fit onto the header pipes. Is it nomal for the pipes to be that close together?? I don't want to fire up the bike until I hear from you guys because it doesn't look right to me. What's to prevent thos pipes from hitting together even at idle? Really....they are only one sixteenth of an inch apart....
Hi, thanks everyone for responding. F cpt98 and fjm3rd....thanks for the pics. Your pipes look very close together like mine. I can only manage to get one sixteenth of an inch at their closest point. Could you guys get a measurement for me? How much room do you have between the top of the bottom pipe and the pipe above it? The measurement I'm looking for has to be taken where they cross over and are closest to one another. Also...do they ever rattle because they hit one another because of vibration? I now know why stock harley pipes are tapered at the ends. Thanks in advance...your help is really appreciated.

Hmmm, okay so I have a question for you. Are you running the adapter that connects your pipes together? I have an 06 streetbob fxdb, and had 4 different slip ons on it, everyone of em except the stock tapered ones came within 2 pubic hairs of the bottom slip on and top slip on hitting each other, UNLESS, and I tried to go without it but there is a fairly flat 18inches long flat rod that connects your two slip ons together. It bolts to the underside of the slip ons where the flanges are, if you don't use that rod then I have ran into the same thing as you without it. so I would assume it would be the same for an 09 as my 06. Are you using that rod or do you have it, should of came with your bike I believe. And I am currently running rush slip ons too and using that rod, I'll take a picture if you need me to.
This is when I had my screamin eagle slip ons on, and this is about 1/2 inch, I just put on rush slip ons about a week ago and it's also about a half inch but slash down instead of balogna cut.
