Mascman, actually I just took one of them to work and got a couple of nuts from there. I got some 5/16-24 lock nuts and also some 5/16-24 castle nuts. Not sure if I should use the lock nuts or not. I'm afraid the lock nuts may have too much tension and snap the stud. I think I may just use the castle nuts and use lock washers. Either way I have what I need to fix it now.

Never have used a torque wrench, just use a star lock washer, snug down the bolt, and then snug it down again after riding for a 100 miles or so..

Doing that you shouldn't have any problem with them coming loose.

I probably wouldn't use the locknuts either as I think you may be right. If the stud gets all corroded and rusty, it may be a bitch to get off.

If you want to double nut it, you can always just use a lockwasher between 2 standard nuts and you'll be pretty bulletproof.

I think that's exactly what I'll do. Lockwasher between two standard nuts.
