6' and mids?
I am getting ever closer to pulling the trigger on a street bob and was wondering before I do if I am really going to have a problem sticking with the mid controls. I am 6' tall and everytime I sit on the Bob someone says 'oh your going to want to go with forward controls on that'. Most seem to say it based on looks and the only people who tell me it based on "personal experience" are 6'5". So looking for input from some real six footers who have gone with mids. I really dont care how I look on the bike as much as having a bike the way I want it with some options of where my feet go ( I will be adding highway pegs, like the low rider) and also like to be able to stand and stretch when I feel like it. I do like to put in long days and will be going with a rally runner seat, so any feed back there would be great too. Oh, yes I did search and could not find this asked, but I am sure it has been.
I'm only 5'10" and wouldn't even think about taking a bike home with mid controls on it. I guess it's a personal preference thing and look on the bright side - you can always swap to the forward controls later.
It's been over 2 years since you joined and only your 4th post - kick back and enjoy the ride here a little more...

Dastick, Ok ill give you some honest feed back. I have an 07 fxdc same bike as what your looking at just sits higher. I am 6ft 1 i didn't care for the mid controls. I put on a set of highway pegs to see if id like my feet out there and i did so i picked up a set of forwards off this site put them on and loved them. Thought heck i need to go out further so bought some extensions 3inch off here that was way to far out ran them one time down the freeway and took them back off that night stayed with the standard forward controls and iam happy as hell. I have put 40,000 miles on the bike in two years. Now alot of guys leave the mid foot peg mounts on the bike and i will say at times when you want to move your feet or on long trips that would be nice to have the forwards on the bike and leave the mid brackets with just pegs on them to move around but i didn't do it cause the bike looks so much cleaner with out them and with standard forward controls i can take my foot off the peg and stretch it out over the peg on the forwards if i need to stretch out my leg. So id say get some forwards the mids will cramp you up the forwards will put you in a nice relaxed state with a slight bend in your leg at 6ft tall.
I'm 5'11" and I tried the factory mid controls for about a month or so. Then got forward controls. I would ride for a 1/2 hour and end up with cramps in my hips. Put on the forward controls and no problems. I also know a guy who put forward controls but left the mid foot pegs on too switch it up. Just some personal experiences.
Well, you're gonna get more opinions than posts on this one. Kinda like pipes, some like them loud, some don't, it's all personal preference. Yeah I guess the longer legged tend to prefer the forwards. I've got a LR and it's the best of both worlds. Mids for the agressive riding and forward pegs for highway and leisurely riding. For the long hauls the ability to make a major shift in leg position really helps keeping the butt burn under control. So do as you say, get the mids and the highway pegs and you can't go wrong.
I am 6' and have mids on an 09 FXDC. It gets cramped, on more than a short ride I have to stretch out my legs. I am going to go with some highway pegs, I don't like the way they look, but feel the mids are giving me the most control over the bike. I like the idea of forwards with the mid pegs in place, I think that looks better than mid controls and highway pegs. But that is more expensive for me to change and like I said I think I prefer having the controls right under me instead of in front. It probably depends on what kind of riding you do, if I did all long stretches with no traffic or lights I would be more likely to just go with forwards.

I'm only 5'7" and putting forwards on my bike may be the best thing I've done to it. I too started with mids.....then added highway pegs.....liked them so much that I started riding using the highway pegs mainly and shifting and braked with my heels. Not bad if everything you do is leisurely, but all it took was one time of having to hit the brakes kinda hard because the car in front stopped quickly to tell me that in a somewhat panicky situation you're going to want to brake "the right way." I didn't like the minor hesitation of switching from the highway pegs to braking "the right way." Bought used forwards....put them on myself and couldn't be happier...and I'm only 5' 7"!!!!! Go with forwards!
Guess i'm the exception here..2006 Bob with mids...and i'm 6foot even. Rode a few friends bikes with forwards and i just don't feel comfortable at all with them..especially in the twisties..balance feels all wrong to me. And on a cold day the wind blows right up my pants legs. Feels like i have more control with mids. I will probably put on highway pegs this Winter for a change of position on longer rides, though...best of both worlds. Never had a problem with cramping unless i'm going a couple hundred miles or more. A decision only you can make.........
Yeah I'd say you probably will be better off with forwards. I tried mids for one ride, and they killed my hips (I'm 6'6"). You can do like I did, leave the mid pegs in place for another stretching spot on long trips. I find myself resting my feet on the mids from time to time during long distances. Of course your best bet is just to ride it for awhile and see if you like the mids or not before dropping the cash.
Oh, and if you're worried about not being able to ride aggressively or having less control with forwards, don't believe it. I do just fine.
