A lot of talk about height and not much about inseam. This is really about how long your legs are. I'm 6'4" but my inseam is only 34". I know 6'2" guys with longer legs than me. I brought my bike home with mids but, to be honest, at the time I didn't know much about the options available. A buddy loaned me an extra set of highway pegs and as soon as I put them on, I knew that's where my feet needed to be to be comfortable. But I wanted my feet to always be near the controls and I got tired of moving my feet back and forth for shifting and braking. To hell with learning to do it with my heels. I ordered a set of Kuryakyn forward controls and installed them myself. I since realized I could stand even more legroom so I traded my forwards out for extended versions. I finally have my bike perfect for me from a comfort perspective.

Everyone has a different comfort level, though. Some prefer mids always. Some have forwards and leave the mids on for an alternate foot position. Some have mids with highway pegs for an alternate foot position. Check around here or ebay and see if you can pick up some highway pegs cheap and try them out first. You might find that is what you like best. Or you may find you always want your feet forward and decide to go with forward controls. In that case, resell the highway pegs and buy some forwards.

+100 on that! I see this in posts all the time and it may be true for some but not for all. I'm much more comfortable and confident with my forwards than with mids.

Im 6'0 and ride with mids - no issues - had forwards on, rode fine, but I like control and rider position with mids better on a bike like a Dyna

True that. I can't understand wanting to keep mids, but do all your shifting with your heels. Bad idea IMO.

Putting on a cheap set of highway pegs on is a great way to tell if you like the position without dropping the cash on forwards. But if you find that you like it, and you are shifting and braking all the time with your heels, it sure seems like forwards would be the way to go.

mids will be tough if your legs are tight fitting on them. This will depend on inseam over your height. For instance I am 6' and have a long inseam. I cannot ride mids for very long at all cause my hip starts to cramp up from my legs being above parallel to the ground. If you are short legged and you can sit with your legs parallel to the ground, with your feet on the pegs, then by all means mids should be able to work out for you.

I'm 6'2 and ride with mids. I have no problem with them. Try out the mids. If you don't like them get the forward or some highway pegs.

I am 6' 1" and I actually went from forwards on my FXDF to mids. I like them much better than forwards which I feel puts you in a position on your tailbone and does not allow you to do a lot of adjusting you postion. I feel mids put me in a more agressive riding position for riding in the mountain twisties and I can rock forward and back to distribute the pressure on longer rides. However, I rode dirt bikes for years so it just feels right to me to have my feet under me.

Interestingly, I put on highway pegs for another position on longer rides. This summer On 3 different weekends of 1500+ miles each I would say I used the highway pegs less than 10% of the time.

And on a cold day the wind blows right up my pants legs. Feels like i have more control with mids. Phil K,

I feel exactly the same on all points. Mid controls seems so much more balanced to me. I have the highway pegs on the FXDL and moving to them on long rides is great for a while. My bum back won't alow for that stretched out leg position for very long.

I think the thing here is inseam and not height though. I am just a hair under 6" but have barely a 30" inseam. My son is the same height and has almost a 33" inseam. He prefers the front pegs most of the time, I prefer my feet underneath me. In the end it's a matter of preference.
