I rode a Muscle last year and, to me, it was very uncomfortable in stock trim. The bars have no pullback. Combine that with the forward controls and I was about bent double. I realize the bars are easy to change, and I really wouldn't mind having one. V-Rods are almost scary fast compared to a stage 1 Dyna, especially when you hammer it at 5000 rpm.
Those conversions are wild. I wonder if that's something HD will ever make.
I'm just dreamin' anyway. I love my bike for its versatility, and I don't think you get as much of that with the Rod. Plus, the few times I've sat on one, they feel so long and heavy that I bet I can carve better on my Dyna. That rake on the front end is a turn-off for me. I really don't think it would be real good for two-upping either, especially two-up touring.
I love the Muscle with the batwing! I've seen a few really nice V-Rods set up for touring, but I don't think HD is gonna put out a touring version unless they did something about getting more mileage out of a tank.
I've ridden a SE V-Rod and a "stock" one; neither made me want to trade in. The SE performed well in a straight line, but those fat rear tire bikes don't turn worth a crap...found the same about the Victory, too...
Anyhow; I'm sure they could be made into an excellent performance solo tourer; don't see how they could be adapted to long range 2-up, though.
I still prefer the crude, rough, noisy massive low-end torque of my present bike. And I like the way it tours.....
sharkey your touring set up is great! GPS, bags, back rest... shield... man very well done, very well balanced! with that set up you can still rip though some turns i bet! i love it!!
I have had 3 different Harleys in the past 6 months. The first was a 2005 Vrod. I did not like that bike at all. It puts out a lot of heat on the right leg, & it just sucked. My next bike was a 2001 Ultra Classic. A nice bike for touring, but way to big & heavy for me. I am 5'9 & weigh 190. The ultra would blister my inner thighs & legs would get hot to.I now own a 2000 Wideglide with a 95" big bore kit & Samson dragpipes. I absolutely LOVE this bike. It handles great, looks great, sounds frickin awesome & no heat from the engine.
