Default Detachable Hardware Part # Question ...

Guys ...

Planning on ordering my sideplates, upright, and backrest pad tomorrow. Am going the QD route to get back to solo quick since 95% of my riding is done by myself. The chart on Harley's site is somewhat confusing on just exactly what I need. My question:

If I'm putting on Sideplates 52866-06 ... do I need QD kit 53961-06 ? ... or 53961-06 AND 53968-06 ? I'm planning on leaving the directionals on the strut so I cant figure why the chart adds the extra 53968-06 kit. Seems to me that should be for moving the directionals for Saddlebags ...

I know a great deal of you have added quick detach hardware ... anyone?

Thanks in advance ...

i was going that route, just to many extra stuff to buy,so i went withthe rigid setup. plus, sometimes the removable type can come up missing : good luck...

also.i do not trust the detach type. they can come loose and fall off the bike. i am sure others will chime in on this topic with opinions.

if you go with just sissy bar the signals get moved back one notch(1 1/2 maybe) from there present location to accomedate the plate
if you go with saddle bags then they move to license plate frame

Thanks TOMMAY ... I've been reading that one tonight as well. I initially was thinking about going with the rigid plates ... my only drawback there is I dont know exactly what the bike will look like with the sideplates and short bar in a solo set-up. I see you've made yours easier to get off!! One thing is for sure, if I went the rigid route I'd always take the pillion and backrest off when I was riding solo ..... only thing on the bike would be the short bar.

just did this on my street bob.
Harley is redesigning the docking hardware from what i was told. the current docking hardware mounts are hollow and wear out or break easily when bumped. new redesigned docking hardware supposed to be out around end of July.
Here is what I bought.

52866-06 detachable sideplate
53961-06 docking hardware (see note above)
53968-06 turn signal relocator kit (i had to put a washer on the sideplates on the inside of the fender to make this work per the harley mechanics otherwise the turn signal relocators would not tighten all the way)

I added the detachable sissy bar and rack to my Bob - already had the laydown plate/signal post combination from a previous bike. Regardless of which way you go, check the length of the hardware - Harley has not quite caught up to the new models with their accesorries yet... Now I'm left w/ a hole in the sideplate where the signal wires passes through - no big deal; I can't keep my wife off the back anyway and only plan to go solo for special runs (Sturgis) which she has no desire to attend...Too bad, eh?

I'm with you on that,I'd planned on going back to my Mustang solo with the Motherwell rack after my kid's go back to their Mom in a coupla weeks. Only problem is,that Corbin seat is the most comfortable seat I've ever set on,but the way it's built it extends way back from the rear mounting hole and you can't attach the rack. I ride to work every day and I use the rack a lot to strap stuff on. Guess I could use a backpack, but I really don't want to.

Anyway,Good luck to you.

Just got off the phone with my parts guy .... no QD hardware kits anywhere .... they didnt have one and a dealer search came up with none. Simply amazing that Harley would just leave a hole in availability out there if/when they are making new kits. [&:]

Looks like I'll be ordering rigid plates this afternoon .... LOL .... Harley finally saves me money by NOT having a damn thing I needed.

Later....
