Don, you just did a handlebar swap? Nothing with the wiring? It sounds like the switch went bad, possibly due to shorting, but those switches are tougher than that. Was anything else modified?

RSA, straight swap. Nothing else. Not my first rodeo know what I mean, I actually think the switch in the hand control took a ****. Like I said before when I actuate the switch with my thumb the rear lights go out. Swapped many bars over the years with never one problem. Problem this time is it's not my bike.

Yep, I'd think the switch would be where I'd start, if it's not the switch you may have pinched a wire somewhere.

No pinched wires. First thing I looked for.

Very odd that a normally open switch is now also controlling a normaly closed circuit that is usually doesn't effect. I'd definately replace the switch and go from there. Let us know what you end up finding out!

did you drop and lose the little wedge (spring clip)??

The piece I speak of is #6 below.

May or may not be your problem.

Why didn't you just slide the tank back and unplug the from harness? The rear should still work, independently. If it then functions correctly you know it is in front of the plug. Simple check for shorts at that point test each wire, check across them for a short, and check them for a short with a ground.

Got it! I ended up having to wedge the switch in the hand control out toward the lever father so when the brake lever was released it would activate the switch. Thanks for all your suggestions. Thats why I love this forum. This place rocks!!
