Default Brake switch

I just changed handlebars. I did the cardboard trick between the front break lever. I put back together and yep, I have no brake lights now. Funny thing to me is I have no brake lights with the rear foot pedal either. What went wrong and how do I take care of this problem. Kinda stumped.

Don...Both are powered by the same source, perhaps a short that took out the fuse? Both are powered by the OR/WH accessory wire, at least on the 05 Dyna.

Do you have a wiring schematic? As I recall they are not wired in series, so one should not affect the other unless the power source is disconnected somehow.

Good point, a short may have blown the lamp instead of the fuse.

The brake sw's are normally open switches. either should complete the circuit when pressed. But the problem is probably in the front where you were working. easy to get that little thing out of socket. That is where I would start.

Hey guys after further review, the brake light is stuck on. I pulled the bulb and checked and when the key is on both filaments light up. Really stumped now.

Don,

Must be a short in the handlebar wiring or a stuck brake light micro switch in the r/h housing, I guess. My advise: open up the housing and try to operate the micro switch and see if there is a response from the brake/taillight.

To find parts diagrams see instruction sheet for chrome switch housing kit ...70222-96B (added 09-17-2009) from the database thread

Rider, when I open it up and operate the micro switch with my thumb, the brake light AND taillight both turn off. Now what, replace the switch?
