I see a lot of photos with a stage 1 put in but it no longer has the original stock "football" shaped cover that HD puts on. Any harm by riding around with it exposed like that or no?

I took a coffee can bottom and cut that out... then glued a trim ring to it... powdered it all black

Just to give you a heads up I was interested in that very same piece. When I asked my neighbor who is a Drag Specialties rep he told me to stay away because it's crap.

I wasn't going to post this... but then I opened that link.
I had this on my 92 Sportster, it had a Supper E carb on it.
I liked the smaller diameter & old style look of it so...
I made a bracket to span the jug holes, cut down & used the stock breather bolts. I covered the backing plate holes with aluminum foil tape & drilled new holes as needed to mount it to the bracket & throttle body. The breather tube was automotive windshield washer tubing & a T fitting.
The filter element was foam which didn't hold up to well against the hot oil fumes, so I ditched it for the SE backing plate & filter.
