Hey, I drive an '06 bob. The regular beams are adjusted fine, but the high beams seem to scatter the light around such a wide area that it's almost worthless. How much of a help do all of you find the highs give you?

I find the same thing. I've tilted the headlite down so far that when you look at the headlite it looks like it's pointing at the ground and people still reach for there mirrors when I come up behind them and the high beams light up the trees overhead. I've got 11 inch shocks so that doesn't help matters, but it seems like theres too much difference between low and high beams.

Good Luck

Tom

My bike is a 2000 with a 5.25" headlight, but I upgraded it to the '06 reflector style and then I use a higher output (whiter) halogen bulb.
That said, mine seems to work just fine. It does scatter the light some, but that's part of what it's supposed to do I think. It's not designed to just throw a pencil beam down the road.

The only negative thing I can think of is that the high beam can attract a whole lott'a bugs at night, and so I don't drive with the high beams on very much. I tend to drive on fairly dense freeways with cars and/or light on them, or city streets that also have quite a bit of light on the road already.

Well,.... on my 06 SuperGlide I dont drive much at all with my high beams since they just dispurse the light out everywhere like a floodlight. Now I'm satisfied with my low beam, but another reason that I dont use the high beam is because it also attracts alot more bugs.

As a Midnight commuter, I am really disappointed in the headlight.

I bought the upgrade bulb with higher wattage, and then I removed the metal deflector that's in front of the bulb.

I mainly use my low beam, which is better now, but I ride in very rural areas with deer. I'll usually throw the highbeam on when I'm heading down the straights to see if I can spot a deer on the sides of the road, and then switch back to the lowbeam when I get into the curves.

I agree pretty much 'worthless'.. But somebody will come up with a better way. Till then i'll stay mainly on low (except to check for critters on the side of the road, they like to hop rides with Harleys, I kmnow first hand... : ) But the cast comes off in just three more weeks,, I cant wait.. Its ruff having a great bike in the garage and you cant ride it.... Its really clean tho....

Mascman... I went out and bought a PIAA bulb, which works great... except for the d@#m metal piece inside the headlight... did you just cut it off..?? it's got that screw holding it to the bulb mounting piece...any problems after cutting it...?? How hot is your headlight glass with it off..? I'm wondering if the glass will break if rain hits it... appreciate any info thanks... Skee

I have an 06 Super Glide with the same problem. I aimed it lower and have had much better results. The was a thread on this a few months ago with the same complaints. Others who aimed the light lower seemed to be more satisfied with the performance.

If I aim my light lower, won't it sacrifice the regular beams effectiveness?
