Default FXDF Tach Install Options

I picked up the 2 5/8" tach for my Fat Bob, and am wondering if anybody has come up with different options for mounting. The setup used on the CVO looks "tacked on." Is there a bracket available to mount the tach closer to the tank off the bars, rather than on the top edge?? Any other ideas?

Probably a winter project once I decide on the mount.

I wanna do the same on my Fat Bob - I can see it fitting between the handlebars and tank too but that canter section is not round. May even be a cover of some kind - I havent taken mine off to look

I want to make a custom bracket and get it into that position. Maybe soembody already did this and knows how?

I dont want a tach in the speedo - too low and too small. I dont want it to be the tallest piece on the bike either - looks like crap IMO.

UNDER the bar is perfect! must be a way to do this...

there are a lot of aftermarket gauge mounts available for a 2 5/8 tach. Most will mount to your risers. So you can mount towards the inside of the bars. Check out the drag specialties catalog for options.

I toyed with this for months but there is just not enough clearance between the FatBob risers and the tank for the Harley 2 2/8 tach and cup. Perhaps a custom mount would work, but I don't think there is much margin, if any, for error there. There used to be a kit that would mount the tach to the stem nut (tach would be below the bar height where there is more clearance), but it was discontinued awhile ago. You are pretty much stuck with the CVO style mounting unless you mount it off center and directly to the handlebars or risers. I ended up using an older style bracket and the riser bolts nearer to the tank, seems to look better (not as noticeable). I need to update my photos as all I have is pre-install views.

The other option is to use a combo tach-speedo.

Was wondering if anyone else has come up with ways to install a tach on the Fat Bob?

I went w/the speedo/tach combo unit. I didn't want anything looking tacked on.

Would your tach fit with Harley 6 and 1/2 inch pullback risers??

Because it looks cool!

On a more serious note, I would like to have a tach so I can see exactly what I'm doing, make sure I'm in the right gear and what not. It comes especially handy when you get comfortable enough to start revving the engine a little higher, you don't have to look at it every time but it helps with figuring out the "correct feel" for when to shift. This is my first bike but in all the manual cars I've had that's how I used a tach.

The speedo/tach combo is very cool but I was hoping for something cheaper...

I like having a tach. I keep the engine in the 2.5 to 3 k range when I ride. Now that I'm accustomed to the sound of the twin cam engine I probably don't need it but I still refer to it every now and again.

If you think you're being crass, maybe you should have phrased your question differently.
