Any Simple Improvents to Front Shocks??
on to the next project, lol...
Anyway, I too have dumped out the front stock oil and put in amsoil 10w in my forks, plus I went with the progressive stock replacements. I think the question your asking has a lot to do with, how you ride, your weight, where you ride, and what you've ridden before.
Me I'm a buck 70, probably more freeway than side street ridin. The updates I did were perfect, it stiffened up the front end enough that when I hit bumps I wasn't bottoming out and that's what I wanted. Haven't really noticed enough reason to mess with the back shocks, my wife has never even sat on the back of my ride let alone roll down the road, so support/stiffness/bottoming out with my slim a$$ on it, hasn't happened yet. Although I gotta say next year I think I will invest in a true track set up.
Now I gotta get ready to pull my forks back off because like you Joe Knapp is gonna do some front end work for me, haha.
Progressive springs take the edge off of the smaller bumps but stiffen as you brake hard or hit bigger bumps to prevent bottoming and improve control ...
Works straight rate springs are stiffer, but when used with a cartidge emulator the latter will soften the smaller stuff ...?
Something like that ...?
Which is why you recommend progressive rate springs ... one thing to buy for about a third the cost of the other solution ...??
[My apologies for mangling the lingo ... have never really been schooled in the finer points of suspension discussion ... obviously ....]
