i have a 09 fxdc, there was no 'power outlet' of any sort standard on my bike.
if you are talking about the connector for the trickle charger, that wasnt standard on the bike either. i think alot of shops install the trickle charger adapters prior to delivery, but mine did not come that way.
fwiw, the charger i bought came with the adapter, and it was a very easy install.
My battery tender connector was installed when I purchased my FXDC. Works great and I always have the tender hooked up on the bike when sitting in the garage. But be careful that the connector does not sit too close to the engine. I noticed that the outer layer of the connector was melted away. Fortunately the wire was ok. I just taped it up.
Local dealer installs them on all there bikes so the batterys don't go dead while the bike sits on the showroom floor. Wiring is included and then they talk you into the charger. Good pr move imho but I bet it cuts into their battery sales.
A .75 amp trickle charger will work fine for maintaining your battery charge. Take off your battery cover and attach the harness from your charger (almost all include one) that connects to your battery terminals (and which also includes an inline fuse ). Tuck the fuse cover into the battery strap and run the end of the harness out behind the battery cover. Put the battery cover back on.
funny, I just put the + clip on the pos. pole on my starter and the neg to the stud on the exhaust mount on the tranny, and walk away........
works great for me
I recommend that you get a Deltran Battery Tender Jr. It comes with the hook-up wire to attach to your battery. Tie the hook-up wire to the frame under seat with a cable tie on the left side. Keep the bike plugged into the battery tender when you aren't riding it. You can get the battery tender at an auto parts store or from eBay. Here's one being offered for $24.95.
Mine had one installed, 09 SG, but i leave in in a storage unit sometimes for months, jus pull the main fuse , cranks every time. Have to reset the clock. Keep one of those walmart portabats nearby
wes
I've been using the $20 Walmart trickle charger/Battery Tender for a while now. Comes with two dongles. One with the eyelets to put on the battery and leave it there and one with alligator clips to use the old fashioned way. Since I have two bikes I cut the gator clips off and put some eyelets on and installed it on the other battery. It's kinda short but I could easily extend it with some wire, solder, and shrink wrap if needed.
