I'm seriously considering an '08 FXD in a nearby dealership, but came here to see if I might be making a $12k mistake. Had to make sure the cam tensioner issue had been resolved, and that the bike wouldn't kill me with the rear steer wobble.
Don't have the $$ to buy two bikes, so I have to pick the compromise. Softails are nice to look at, and comfortable on the highway, but gives up too much in the twisties. I ride back roads a lot more than highways. Dyna doesn't lose that much in agility, plus I get a 96" motor & a sixth gear to cruise.
