Default Detachable Windshiels Question

Bought a HD detachable windshield, the kind that uses 4 clamps, for my '06 Low Rider. I haven't used it yet because one of the clamps was defective and a new clamp is on the way.

The clamps seem very secure, it's just that at high speeds there must be a ton of air pressure on the windshield.

Anyone have any problems at speeds of 65-75 mph with theirs?

Thanks.

Nope - works great.

The only MINOR thing I've noticed is that the tiny clear tabs that are on the inside of the handle side of the clamp are sliding out of place so they're kind of half on and half off now.

no probs at all at speeds up to 90. I put it on when I do highway riding. Makes a world of difference.

It was 95 here in Chicago yesterday so I decided to ride without my windshield. Hitting 60mph without it made me realize why I rarely take it off. It's much quieter and really makes a difference in how I enjoy the ride. Do you fight the wind resistance at high speeds? Probably, but unless your in a race, who cares.

I've had the quick detach windshield on my '06 FXDCI and now on my LowRider. Very secure - and if I remember correctly (I don't have one in front of me at the moment), you can tighten the clamps down as necessary.

Just curious... which size windshield did you get for your LowRider? I've tried the "standard height" shield and found the buffeting at highway speeds (>65mph) to be unacceptable so I'm swapping it out for the low profile shield.

Have had no problems with my windshield on my Dyna Super Glide Custom. It is the detachable one also. I was riding between 70 and 80 mph and noticed no problems.

I bought the standard height. The clamps cannot be tightened down.

If there's too much buffeting I might have it cut down.

It looks like this one (Not my bike, but same windshield)

If you do find the buffeting to be a problem, keep in mind that windshield height isn't the only factor contributing to the buffeting. A big part of it is the air coming up from underneath the shield. I'll get a chance to test out the low profile shield tonight and I'll let you know if it makes for a better ride. In any event, these quick detach windshields are probably the best on the market. I don't know why Memphis Shades, et al haven't come up with a similar mounting system. (I had a Memphis Fats on my VTX1300 and although it was removable, it was by no means quick - and it required permanent mounting hardware on the forks.)
