I have searched this forum and found many different opinions on how to do this, so I wanted to see if I could find the best way to do it. By best I mean easiest (as look as it works right and will last a long time)
I have a HD tach kit for 05 model dyna that I am wanting to put on an 06 superglide. I am waiting for my new risers to be delivered before I do the install.
I still need to get a regular top clamp.
DO I need to get anything else before I start.
What is the best way to do this install?
Do you have the mounting bracket and cup? Does your tach kit include a pin for ECU, for pin 3? The easiest way, I think, is to use one of those mounting brackets that bolt to the risers (one with the right angle for you), they should come with longer screws and spacers to keep the bracket off the clamp. Then the tach and cup clamp to the bracket. Then its just the wiring, there are quite a few instruction about. Maybe 30 minutes or an hour if you are careful.
Does your superglide have the speedo on the handlebar or tank?
The part number is67224-04.
The speedo is on the handlebars. The kit comes with the tach, bracket for putting the speedo and tcah next to each other on the handle bar, back of cup, wiring, and indicater lights.
Mounting it to the clamp shouldn't be a problem it is the wiring that I am concerned about, since my o6 doesn't have a plug in the wiring harness.
I am soory but I am not sure about the pin for ecu
Please keep us posted on how you wire this! I want to do the same install on my '07 over the winter. The tech at my local HD shop was very helpful, but didn't think that "kit" would plug and play with the 06-later harness. Some cutting/re-wiring might be necessary??
The pin in the kit may be OK for the speedo but a little large for the ECU.. From what I've read, no one has had a problem getting a good tach signal at ECU pin 3, but there have been a few that speedo pin 3 wouldn't work. There have been a few here that used the tach harness pin anyway and worked fine, there have also been a few that clipped off the original pin and crimped on the correct size (that's what I did). Most HD dealers stock these pins for less than a dollar.
