2006 Wide Glide with 1800 miles on it. I started her up and went about a mile down the road, I am in third gear and when I shift to 2nd I hear a weird clickity sound and the bikes shifter lever stays down and doesn't reset to the normal position. So I reach my boot back down and kick the lever back up to its normal position and its still in 2nd. I then Click it down again and the lever stays down, but its in first. I pull over to the side of the road and I reach down and move the shifter rod back and forth and it has a good amount of play and will shift between 1st, neutral, and second by just moving the rod without pulling the clutch in. I am imagining the tension has somehow gotten screwed on the rod, but man how can this happen with, so little mileage. I had the 1k service done 16 days ago and put 800 miles I figure if it was the mechanic not tightening it down or something it would have came up by now....What do I need to do any ideas? The only thing I do is when I do downshift gears I will pop the throttle some with the clutch pulled in before I let out on the clutch... I doubt its related, but thats the only thing I do thats not required when downshifting gears...I always heard that this helps mesh the gears before you put a load on them... Thanks for the help...
That sucks rap, that you're having this trouble with so few miles. If my bike were under warranty (yours is?) I'd just take her right back the dealer and not even mess with it, then let them tell *you* what the trouble was. Just my .02.
Yep, well I bought it at a North Carolina dealer, do all dealers have to accept warranty work? Any ideas what it could be though...I do plan on taking it by the dealer though..
Jesus..well Southside Harley here in Virginia Beach, VA is booked until August, Bayside Harley in Portsmouth, VA can get me in on Sat..., so I do have plenty of time to try some stuff if you guys have any ideas...
Well to me it seems like the shifter rod is somehow out of adjustment, not the tranny...I don't really know how to adjust the shifter rod...but at the same time with such low mileage I am trying to figure out how it got out of adjustment in the first place...
Had one dealer look at it today said there was no way it was a bushing problem it was way to loose. Mechanic wanted to take of the trans cover to see what was going on, no time yet. However, they were closing. Said they would call Harley Tech Support tommorow. Bike had no recalls needed on file. Guy said he was interested to see what it was never had that...and being that this new 6 speed went in all of them....
