I'm in the process of replacing my front turn signals with HD LED mirrors. I'll be installing the Badlands III equalizer to take care of the load aspect.
I had hoped to just wire these directly into where the stock units plugged in using the OE type connector; I want to avoid splicing. But, the lighted LED mirrors are 2-wire versus the stock 3-wire connections. The kit also comes with a Y-adapter with the intent of integrating these with the stock units - not my intent to keep the stock units. The Y-adapter also has a small circuit board spliced inline that serves some purpose - I'm guessing it handles the turn and running light functions.
For those that have installed these units without keeping the stock turn signals, did you have to use the y-adapter to keep both turn and running light functions? If you did not use the y-adapter, how did you handling the 2-wire to 3-wire connection? I've got the manual and I'm presuming the blue wires on both sides are used for the running light function.
Went ahead and installed the Y-adapter. Everything works awesome. Mirrors are on when ignition is on, and then blinks on-off while flashing. I don't appear to need an equalizer, but as I'm going LED in the back soon, I'll put the Badlands III unit in as planned. Might as well do it right the first time.
