Yup. And the FXRs never had Fat Bobs. The 82 tank was divided but one piece (with a crossover) with a center fuel cap and a fuel gauge on the dash. Speedo and tach (for the FXRS) were handlebar mounted just like the Sportys.

MY 1972 FX Second year of the SUPER GLIDE .I Am a computer idiot but someday I will get help with some pics. If I put it side by side with my 08 FAT BOB it is scary how close they resemble each other, Probably why I fell in love with it when I saw it in sept. 07 and signed the paper work on the spot. Had no intention of buying a bike when I went to the dealer!!

I think the rear fender of the new fat bob definetly resembles the 71, 72 FX SUPERGLIDES And HD made the 1979 FXEF FAT BOB which I believe were all best sellers even before the intro of the FXR'S JMO. Everyone wanted a lightweight big twin

I have a Street Bob, but whenever I'm explaining the Harley "families" to non Harley riders, I explain that all the Dyna's are variations of the Super Glide.

Taddeoeg said that the FXR frame is the true ancestor of the Dyna. That might be true as far as rubber mounting goes, but I don't think so visually. Back in the 90's when the Dyna was introduced I read that the MOCO heard from a lot of customers that they weren't too happy with the styling of the FXR frame. One of the reasons for the Dyna frame was to make it look more like the original FX frame (the frame the original Super Glide used) from a styling viewpoint.

Oh come on. In case no one remembers, the early superglides were really bad motorcycles. Underpowered, handled like a truck on 2 wheels, bad suspension, awful quality control, inferior brakes, and just plain ugly for the first few years. Go find a pic of a 1973 Superglide and tell me it's a rolling work of art. I can say that. I have a Dyna Superglide.

Smile Street Super Glide

When the the Street Bob was introduced in 2006 it was really a Super Glide in drag , the factory gave the Super Glide chassis the Mini Apes, a Solo Seat and Spoke Wheels with a new name tag, they should have called it a "Street Super Bob" or "Street Super Glide" they all have the same Spec's and Chassis including the Super Glide Custom , the Low Rider has the same chassis but it's raked out so it's different in comparision ..

Besides most of us Super Glide ownwers eventually turn them into something that looks like the others anyway. Its just what was in the budget at the time.

The first year for the FXDWG Wide Glide was in '93

The original Superglide was in '71 I believe.

The FX Superglide
