I own a 35th anniv super glide #336.Less then a month ago the front fender was replaced under warranty due to a crack emanating from the rear left rivet hole the area where the fork mount bracket is attatched to the fender. The new fender has been on less then 1 month and is developing a crack in the exact same spot. Any 06 Dyna owners experiencing this problem ??.
Fireball So the dealer had no problem replacing your fender twice then? I went to show dealer here tonight never heard of such of a thing bout fenders cracking with 06s or any hd as far as that goes.Gona call the rep and see what shakes I guess. Just hd going dirtass cheap on guage of metal is all. Like to hear from others also who has had this problem besides you and GRIZZLEY
My bob has 7700 miles on it and the fender cracked in the same spot, left rear rivet. Took it to the dealer today to have the motor mounts checked. I was wondering if broken mounts could cause the cracking or if it was just the right (or wrong) harmonics. They talked like it would be warranty replacement. This was the vibration noise I had started hearing and posted.
Actually the dealer said that they will order a new fender 2nd one.I have yet to hear from them. They did start to give me the B.S. about not covered under warranty .I basically went on the defensive and told them they replaced the origanal and what makes this one differant?.They replied with we will order a new one. So the fender is still on the bike and now the right side aft rivet hole is cracking.I suspect that the hole is not getting deburred after drilling.
I have been a aviation maint tech for the last 30 years and am only assuming this to be the cause due to my experience in the industry. I love my bike and I really hope that the dealer does'nt make this a non warranty issue. If they do ....well I will be dammed if I am going to spend major coins on a bike and have to pay for their production problems..I will start riding another brand of bike!!
I will keep you posted as to the outcome...Thanks and ride safe.
Well the dealer is ordering me a fender FireballI hope the 2nd one is good dont wanna go thru what your going thru. Was told to keep a eye on it for going clear across.Hopefully I will have it in a week. I hear ya on paying for harleysmistakes. Reread the warranty and says it will be replaced if defect so there should be no question on it regardless if you go thru 10 of em inbetween harley correcting the problem.Theres gona be more in the future I am sure if they ride em and not garage ornaments.
I was thinking of maybe a small o ring or rubber washer between the forks and fender, sort of like rubber mounts for the fender. Think that might help????
