The aluminum used on the '06 trees are very soft. I had a bag on mine for a few weeks, then removed it for cleaning and noticed it had worn two gouges in the front of the lower tree. There wasn't even any metal to metal contact, just some plastic on the back of the bag that held the straps. The plastic didn't even have sharp edges. I cleaned up the gouges the best I could with Mother's polish, but the bag stayed OFF.
Your a regular MacGyver man! I am currently in the market for a fork bag, and you and HD SOB just made me rethink this whole thing. I did not think a fork bag would damage my bike, especially since I was looking for a hard leather type. Can't wait to see a wider pic of your bike.

That is exactly what I'm trying to avoid!
I'll keep an eye on it to see if it's digging in. I wanted it to not even touch the tree, but I didn't measure as close as I should have and one part of the bag ended up against the tree. It is solid where it touches so hopefully it won't wear into it.
I can probably slot the holes and slide the bag forward some, but at $4.00, I may just splurge and make another bracket!
Bags kinda close to that fender though. Forks should compress @ 4 inches if you hit something rough. Hard to tell if you have that much space there and no one needs a dented fender...
Must just be the angle of the pic...bike leaning towards the camera.
Basically the clearance looks like imboden's pic.
The bag itself is still soft and would compress. Basically, if you hit hard enough to dent the fender...it will be the least of your worries!!
He looks like he has plenty of room. Usually the bag doesn't dent the fender, it's the tools sitting at the bottom.
This morning when I got home from work, I did move the bag up about an inch just to be safe.
I only carry small stuff like cell phone, wallet, etc. About the only tool I carry is a screwdriver...my stupid seat bolt likes to loosen up on me!
Tomorrow, I think I will slot the bolt holes and play around with that. I would like to bring it further out.
I also thought about removing the round part of the hinge with the pin and just welding the two flat pieces together...that would clean up some of the bulkiness of the mount.

Anyone else getting damage from their fork bags??????
