Here are the pics of the detxhable setup I came up with for my fxdxt.
I meant to put this up here quite a while back...
I would have put it in the under fifty mods, but the detachable kit had to be purchased I also had to use longer bolts all around, I don't remember the exact lenghts at the moment and I didn't have time to take everything apart, sorry.
First pic is the front bolt I had to add a spacer behind the the connector to make everything work with the bags.
Second pic shows the second mount
Third pic shows the "rig" I had to come up with for the bag latch
(a threaded coupler and two nuts) Still trying to make this a little more pleasing to the eye.
fourth pic shows everything without the bag
Fifth pic shows with the bag mounted (other side)

Hi from the UK. I have had my 03 FXDXT from new. Have you done this to restore your bike to take detachables? Set-up looks similar to stock, although probably spaced a bit further away from the bike. Your bags look like FXDXT ones. A problem with them is there is no locking kit to make them secure, so anyone can walk off with them!
mine has the same set up minus the coupler and 2 nuts (from the 3rd pic). i have the sissy bar set up as well. my bags have never seemed that they were too far in to reqire the set up you have.
grbrown,
I should have been more precise, I set it up this way to take a detachable sissy bar, which the moco says can't be done.
And the security for the bags is always on my hip.
icufltrn,
I added the couplers because when I attached the bags after lengthening the mounts they wouldn't "lock"

Ah - makes sense! I'm all in favour of proving things CAN be done! I fitted a factory HID headlamp to my 1990 bike for the same reason.
