Well, to be honest the install was super easy, but getting the alignment right so they'd actually clip on AND off was a nightmare... the bolts for the bag/female side were waaaay too long and it seemed that everytime I tried to tighten them down the bags wouldnt want to mount.
I finally got it but I'm sure they're supposed to clip on/off smoother than they do... I need to get new front docking points for the detachable sissy bar and I'm not looking forward to having to line them all up again.
Just had to vent, other than the hours spent trying to line them up I'm pretty happy with them... aaaaaaand here's a pic of the mounted bags (with FL signal bar and Hogrida's awesome bracket)
the bags or the barebacks?
- the bags are pretty big, at least as wide at the fender but more in the bags means less on my back
- the barebacks arent that big themselves but with the detachable docking points it does make them quite long, the gap isnt as noticeable with the sissy bar in place
the angle of the photo doesnt help the proportions and the whole idea of mounting bags is a compromise of form/function but I think they came out pretty well - all in all I'm pretty stoked with the extra miles I'll be able to munch up now, especially after seeing that new FLD :P
The barebacks are a nice setup and IF you install them by themselves, they only stick out about as much as the standard Harley quick disconnect docking stuff. I have barebacks along with the standard quick disconnect hardware from Harley. I couldn't stand how far out the bags were with both quick disconnect products installed. I removed the barebacks and just bolt the bags on when I need them.
I have Barebacks too and align them with a hammer. Hopefully, one of these days they'll loosen up a bit. Meanwhile, I didn't like the way the bags stuck out so I hardmounted them thinking they'd stay on anyway and hardmounted, they stick out just as much as the BB's IMO. I'm going to go back to the BB's.
