I totally disagree. When I create something, whether it be intangible like music or art, or physical, such as a modded part for my bike, I *definitely* want people to tell me *exactly* what they think of it, and, if possible, give details. Saying it "looks like ****" is sufficient as well. The worst thing anyone can do is to attempt to pacify you and allow you to think you came up with something good when you didn't.

I couldn't agree with you more there, you hit the nail on the head.

I don't understand your involvement with the references though. Writer, musician, man of many hats?

All I'm saying is, at least Try to help yourself before running to the computer and asking here. (IE, the guy asking if Harleys have two cylinders. Not just, "That looks cool, what made you think of that?" or "Where'd you find that?" When someone posts an original, or original to this board, mod and someone responds with, "I want that. Where and how much? How did you do that?"
You seem rather easily irked. Forums are for discussion so I see no reason to be irked by whatever anyone would choose to discuss here. The threads all have titles so you can choose in which threads you'd like to participate. Certainly asking someone how they did something is well within reason on this forum. Suggesting otherwise is rather ridiculous.

Well, I'm not going to ask for forgiveness for all of my worthless posts...very few bikes on this site are actually customized. Most are personalized to what the owner likes and it's his/her choice to do whatever floats their boat.

I like the "bolt ons" on my ride and I like looking at the different ideas others have done to their rides. I try NOT to post a negative reply even when the OP is asking for opinions...

BUT, to the OP that says if you don't have the ***** to cut, grind and drill **** up on your ride to go f*ck themselves...I say back to ya' sport.

Maybe start your own web site with your own rules/policies?

Absolutely, if the originator wishes to share their work, that's what the board is for. It's the complete lack of ingenuity, creativity, originality, or DIY drive that bothers me. When someone is proud of something they have put some time/effort into, I don't think it's appropriate for someone to flat out request where, how much, and how without even Attempting to do some thinking or leg work on their own; just to turn around and do the same thing. It cheapens the original work and creativity. Taking inspiration from something and Taking something is different in my eyes. Maybe I didn't word my first post properly.

So, how do we move forward in this world? We obviously have different ways of looking at things..even as to the purpose of this forum. Here is one of my favorite quotes and I forgot where it came from:

"The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist knows it is."

I was going to stay out of this but I have to agree with Evil's comments. I've chopped my fender, machined down parts, fabbed my own handlebars, made irreversable changes, etc., etc. and blah-blah-blah. In doing so, I've come to realize that sometimes the investment in time can make me blind to the results. I don't always see the shitty stuff as shitty cause it took me so long to make it and no amount of black powdercoat is gonna make it look good. So I appreciate honest opinions as long as they're civil and respectful.

And no need to tell me that blue painter's tape clashes...I've already heard it from all my friends.

I appreciated it. You can flame me all you want. I know who on the forum actually has useful info and usually PM when I have a question I can't answer by searching.
just curious, if you don't like the posts, only like the search and pm the people you want, why belong? It is a voluntary forum. If you don't want to read an exhaust, air cleaner, handlebar etc. thread then just skip it. Just my two cents.

The references were just stories that make the same point I was making - to indicate it's not some new idea I just threw out there.

Yea,I agree there always seem to be some forum policeman that's quick to blurt out "use the search" - if you don't want to waste your valuable time with a thread about exhaust, stage 1,or whatever, then just ignore it,it's not that big of a deal.
FWIW-I personally think the search feature sucks, and very rarely use it,what the hell good would a discussion forum be if everyone used the search all the time anyway?
