I look for a place that didnt go above 100 degrees. If it gets to hot it wouldnt be fun on the bike. Id go with NC. My in-laws live in PA and they can ride prob 10 out of the 12 months.
I am a bit partial to Wa State myself. lived in Jersey, Az., and San Diego before ending up here, and I have to say that I enjoy it here the best. is you look at actual riding days, we actually have a lot more than a majority of states. weather is super mellow in my opinion. and Seattle has a great scene. now for teachers, that would be a downfall for you. they don't pay so well up here.
I had been seriously thinking about SoCal recently. I'm afraid of all the rumors about driving in congested LA and the State laws concerning exhausts. Would I be able to throw some V&H side shots and a PCV on my '09 Street Bob if I came out there? And how crazy do the drivers get (granted I'd be coming from Boston, which is ranked #1 in jaywalker fatalities).
Most of the Harley's in SoCal (and there are MANY) have really loud pipes. I have not heard of anyone being hassled, although I have heard that there are a couple of small beach communities which sort of ban loud bikes.
I have ridden in every state in the Union, as well as 20 or so other countires.
Splitting lanes is legal in California, and more importantly, drivers know it since the police also do it. I ride 30-40,000 miles a year (don't drive a car, and am retired). I find the drivers generally far more courteous and aware than in any other state. Traffic is an issue, no doubt, but the ability to drive between the cars at stop lights, or on the double yellow lines between them (HOV lane on the freeway) can be an enormous benefit.
One issue with cars and congestion is that many people seem to live really far from where they work.
whats up bikers iam in austin texas and am looking for some people to ride with . i have a 2009 dyna super glyde with a nice sixe softball dent on it lol any one have a few tips where to get it fixed? and is any one looking for a single seat and some bars
Phoenix AZ, aka the threshold of hell. The winters are nice but I don't know how anyone can ride in the summers. The only way I do it is if I get up around 6 or 7 am on the weekends and try to make sure I'm back by 9 or 10 am at the latest. It is freaking brutal.
I've had friends that were from Austin or have at least lived there for a while and they all LOVED it.
my opinion of SoCal is exactly opposite of yours. WAY too many people, enough to make it very uncomfortable. WAY too many cops. WAY too many lawyers. WAY too many laws. WAY too many judges
but the weather is almost always very nice, and when it's bad it's rarely for more than a week. The scenery is awesome and yes there is plenty to do.

I'm probably leavin soon
It depends on where you live. Get out in the hills and most the crap is pretty much gone. But yeah in the cities it's too crowded for me. I moved to the East county of San Diego and I like it I lot. Cops don't bother you as much out here and the people out here are a nicer bunch. Too many laws? That's everywhere IMHO. Judges and Lawyers are the same, Always want to bend you over.

SD area is nice in general, and yeah there are still far less crowded places. Was just in Temecula and was very disturbed to see how populated it was!
Dunno, man...I see CA crashing hard in years to come, and...well...think about the two hundred seventy per cent court cost in addition to all the fees if you get popped for something. That alone gets my hackles up to the point of near snapping.
