After recently upgrading to a Low Rider from a Sportster, my bride would like me to install an engine guard (so as not to risk damaging those Anniversary medallions!)
The bar on the 2005 & earlier bolted directly to the bottom of the frame. The 2006 & up bar appears to require U-bolts on each tube.
I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to remove the hiway pegs & use the pre-2006 hiway bar on a 2006 or later? I haven't been able to compare a couple of bikes side-by-side, so I don't have a clue if it would fit.
I appreciate the reply. It appears that the upper mounting might be an issue, as well. I'll try to get up to the dealer to see if they have an older bar I could try. It appears that your 2008 used the u-bolts? I might be stuck with that option.

Thanks.
My pleasure, Vic!
The FXD2008 is not mine, I got the image from a Google search. My bike is the FXD2003.
What I've learned from the H-D P&A Catalog: '06 and later Dyna models have the U-bolt type engine guard kits which can be used in combination with forward controls.
not trying to hijack but i thought i could put this out there, if anyone who is looking at this thread who has a pre-06 dyna, i have a linby crash bar sitting around that im not gonna use. make me an offer if interested. thanks!
Thanks for the responses, guys. I took a ride over to the local dealer yesterday afternoon to do a comparison on some pre-owned bikes. The frame differences will require the later bar on my wife's '08, so I got my questions answered.
