Well, I am fianlly at the point of my dyna project that I need a motor......the bike is painted and wired.
My plan is to go with a stock HD 80" crate motor......I see them on Ebay for $2700 "new" that includes free shipping. These are coming from St.Paul Harley Davidson, has anyone ever bought something from these people? I just don't want to get ripped off, I have come too far with this project.
I've bought an expensive jacket from HD St. Paul. They send it to germany without any problems. Nice people, friendly with an open ear for every question.
Teppo
Sorry..I can't help you with that particular dealer.
Reason I'm replying is because I had a stupid question. Why do they call them "crate" motors. Stock 80" (Evo...right?) from 84 to 98 were the "big twin" harley motors. Is there a difference between those stock engines and a "crate" 80" motor...or is this just a term to describe a motor that was never installed in a bike/vehicle?
I know it's a pointless post..I was just curious.
Anyway...sounds like a good price...If I remember correctly, I think it's cheaper than what's listed in the HD accessories catalog.
Crate motor is just a stock replacement engine......right off the factory floor and shipped to your house in a wooden crate
I have searched the internet today and I think I will go with a Rev Tech 88" they are not much more $$ than the stock HD and come with carb and ignition and come with a 3 yr/30000 mile warranty. Here is a recent pic of my project......just have to fill that big empty hole.
