The 3" of snow gathering outside my office has given me time to reflect (even more time to scan the forums) and i have realized that my wife is unconsciously getting back at me!
She just started riding last year. Her old bike, used to be my old bike, and we had sunk quite the pretty penny on it. Well now we both have brand new Dynas. Mine is a 2010 Wide Glide and hers a 2010 Street Bob.
In the past i would just tell her i needed something for one of the bikes, and wouldnt consider how much (she kept a running amount though), and i would get it, but things have changed.
I am perfectly happy with my W.G. as is. I put some slip-ons for the exhaust, but have yet to find any major changes that i want to make. Not her. Windshield (I understand this is a necessity for some), new seat (ok i understand that), risers (kind of necessary because she says she is leaning up to much with the stock mini apes) exhuast, (thats ok because i got mine to, "however hers was twice the cost of mine") and this list goes on.
As i started to think of all this and add it up, i almost thought about mentioning it to her, then i thought otherwise. I recalled the amount i had spent on my last 2 bikes, and yeah its not even close. I realize now, it is her time to customize and "build the bike." I wonder now if she is getting satisfaction that its "her" turn. Is this payback? Or has she just turned into me reincarnated? Either way, i dont mind, i have my W.G. i love, and she has her S.B. that looks like it will be getting a gradual facelift! Yes yes, i know, i have taken up some precious time with this rant....but hey, what better do you have to do today?
Sounds like a bit of insecurity. Why would you even think about the concept of 'payback'? It's not like she's doing your buddy. She's going to customize her bike as you have done yours.
My wife and I took the riders safety course the first week of this year, and both passed. The last day we took my (our?) '07 SG home. We weren't even out of the dealership yet when she determined that she wanted her own bike....an Ultra Glide. And she's abolutely stuck on it. Say what? My wife'll have a bigger bike than me?
That's alright though. When we get hers, I get to put a solo seat one mine and drop it an inch or so as well as do some other things, so I can't complain.
That sounds good to me. Saves your time and money so you can do more riding! lol. Take advantage of it and work with her. It might work out in your favor and she won t care when you drop $$$$ on your ride! C
do you love her as much as she loves you? If so, go buy her whatever she wants and hasn't yet convinced herself to put out the bucks for and call it a Valentine's Day present.
Beats the **** out of expensive flowers that die in a couple of days, don't it?
:-)
After reading this thread so far, I am more convinced than ever that I am going to get the OL her own bike. Besides, I am tired of the 2up setup always being on my bike, love the solo look but rarely get to see it anymore.
Now we just have to decide what to get her.

The best thing I did with my wife. 2 up riding sucks. We each have our own bikes and can ride our own style, trips, distance, times, or together. Usually together but she mayride down and meet me at work and we'll go to bike night. C
I enjoy riding 2up, just hate the way the bike looks...We have been looking at bikes, the Fat Boy low has really caught her eye, all black... which surprised me. She really likes the Fat Bob too.. Guess we will rent a couple different bikes...Once this freakin weather warms up and all this damn snow melts...
