Default Need Advice: Fatbob Needs A New Front Shoe

Hey All,

Car tires I know, but I'm a newbie when it comes to motorcycle tires. My Fatbob has the stock Dunlops on it, but after only 1000 miles, I noticed a decent sized slash along the front tire.

I won't speculate on how it happened, but I believe it probably happened innocently enough as it's long, but not excessively deep. I just didn't find it somehow before this.

It is however, a slice in the front tire and I'm in the mindset to replace it to avoid tempting fate. I bought my bike with 650 miles on it and it did not come with the HD manual.

So, now it seems I'm shopping tires. I have read several threads in the search function, but would still like some more specific advice before ordering.

1) What is the best tire for cruising the Fatbob in terms of stability and grip? I don't ride much in rain/wet, but it'd have to be good for that in case of the errant pm shower. I've read good things about Metzler, Avon, and Michelin. If the Dunlops are the best choice for the Fatbob, then I'll stick to it.

2) Proper fitment. What sizing does the 09 Fatbob use? I will most likely need to replace both tires to avoid matching issues.

If there's anything I'm leaving out or forgetting to ask, please let me know.

Thanks for helping this noob start the prep for spring!

I wouldn't run a mismatched set of tires so I would say buy another OEM Dunlop tire. Then once you get some miles on it and are ready for a full set look at going with whatever you decide.

front = 130/90B16 rear=180/70B16 both inflated to 36 psi , 40 in the rear for 2 up riding. 650 miles wow that is brand new! if it isn't deeper than 1/16th i would keep it on,then again I can't see it so a pic would be nice. then again it's your decision one way or another.
if you go avon you wiill have no choice but to go mismatched they just son't make a set for the FB. Metzler makes them and they will grip much better than the dun's,but Avon and Metz's will wear much faster than the Dunner which is not really a bad tire at all, I'm on my third rear and my second front!
O and last time i was athe dealer i asked for an owner's manual and they had a whole box full so just ask and you may get lucky! Pick up a shop manual while your there!
