Just take the molex connectors apart. Not hard, but just make sure you document which wire goes where. The connectors will not fit through the tree.

Do you need a little help on connector disassembly?

Here ya go:

Default Handlebar swap

Hi.
I changed the internally wired bars on my '09 street Bob. I had to dismantle the molex connectors inside the frame, under the tank to get the wires through the bars. Check out youtube. There's an video explaining this (molex connector removal) Can't remember the users name, but he's sitting outside with his bike and does a great job of the explanation. Good luck.

I think when I do my bar upgrade I and going to add a second connecter the sits just inside the neck hole with about 3-4" of wire on the neck side. This way I can just pull the extra cable/connector out the neck hole and unplug it. I know this seems like a little much, but I will only have to lift the tank, pull the plastic cover, mess around with the rats nest once. Not to mention that if I ever need to pull the bars for any reason again it will only take me about 2-3 minutes to get the wires free.

My connectors fitted through the tree but obviously they won't fit through the bars if they are being swapped too

How much did you pay? You can get black fat bob trees for $200 if interested in going that way

$200, don't forget that (I believe) you will going to a wider frontend which will require a wider hub (new wheel or relaxingold wheel and new hub). If I am correct and all that is required then the $200 is just the beginning for you, wish you luck.

A new axle is needed and spacers for axle, disc rotor and fender, all of which I machined myself.
A New hub is not needed.

old thread, but thanks for the video link on the molex connector disassembly. this has given me a reason to try it. at first I was actually considering cutting the wires in the switch housings and then just soldering them back after running them through my new bars.
