From experience I bought a 1 3/8. It's fairly deep. If I had access to a chop saw, I would definitely cut it down. The H-D fork cap socket is fairly shallow w/ a rubber grommet inside. Makes it a tight fit and easier to handle. My fullsize socket has gotten away from me more than I can count and slammed my front fender taking a nice chunk of paint off on one occasion.

Ouch!! Thanks for the tip. My lowering springs came today and I've been to lowes and 2 other places that I thought would sell a socket that size but I haven't had any luck. A guy I work with has lots of tools and I told him I thought it was that size. Other than controlling the socket and holding downward pressure on the last threads, anything else I need to know about?

A) Don't have your face directly inline with the socket.
B) You can find that socket at Autozone or Advanced Auto. That's where I found mine.
C) In case you need to remove the 12mm allen at the bottom of the forks, go to Napa. They have a 12mm allen that fits on a 1/2" drive ratchet that is like 4" long and black. It's THE perfect length.
I found my 1 3/8 socket at Tractor supply. I always put electrical tape around the cap and the socket fits perfect.
Ahhhhh......Didn't think to check there. The tape sounds like a good idea. I've got the 11" shocks on the rear. Guess it will be tomorrow now when I do the front. You guys that have the Burly slammer kit are sitting looowwwww. The 11's dropped me down as far as I want to be. I forgot to put something under my rear tire and I couldn't get my Jack out from under it.
Found my 35mm at Checker autoparts. They have them half price so it was like 8 bucks. Not a bad price for a socket that I will only use once every 5 years.
