Default Tank Badge Removal?

I have not even received my 010 FXDC yet. So may be jumping the gun. But intend on sending in the tins for powder coating soon after receiving. So how do I remove the tank emblems? Will they be damaged in removal?

If you're careful you can get them off without damaging them. I'd sit the bike out in the sun for a few hours to get 'em a little soft then you can use something to pry them up. Maybe a hair dryer on the hot setting would also work. High test fishing line... any number of ways.

I was able to easily just pull mine off of my 09 Fat Bob. Slow and gentle. I was surprised how easy the sticky stuff gave way. I had fishing line on had to use just in case but did not need it.

Heat gun and fishing wire worked great for me.

I must be asking a stupid question (since no one's mentioned it)...how do you reapply the emblem (as in what type of adhesive)...I remember seeing a bob somewhere in this forum where they painted the emblem flat black...subdued the look of the emblem...I though it was pretty cool...I'd like to do that as well...planning or painting the battery band, air cleaner cover and emblems in the next couple of day...

For the OP...I just grabbed them and pulled them off without issue. I did bend them up, but I didn't plan to put them back on so...YMMV.

Tcabello...I would just tape them off and paint on your tank rather than worry about getting them back on straight. Mine had a 2 sided sticky foam that was not hard to get off.

I'm surprised no one asked the obvious question of the OP.

Why are you powder coating the tins on your brand new bike?

(Yes, fishing line or dental floss, patience, and a heat gun or hair dryer will do it)

a corollary to this brilliant question...

...why are you worried about the most delicate way to get the emblems off if your tins are gonna be media blasted and powdered?

just yank the things off however you think will work best.
