I had an epiphany today . More like a sense of pride and awe all mixed in to a feeling of great understanding. Maybe Im just feeling the after effects from St. Patricks. I was looking at my bike, just sitting there admiring the beautiful simplicity of it all when it hit me like a freight train. Its American. My bike represents the freedom and independence the American soul has felt since the country was founded. I proudly served the US Army and always felt patriotism love for this country that has given me the opportunity to give to it. On my Harley I feel something else I feel all those years of crap in the army are paid in full with the miles you all put on your bikes. I feel the pride of knowing that while there are countless other motorcycles out there, none of them share our heritage and honor of being the original American Motorcycle. It is a great feeling to not only feel pride, but understand it. For each of us pride comes from a different place. Thats all part of being American And nobody can take that away from us. I swear by it.
When I sit and look at my bike I'm thinking what do I want to do next! Cut this, move that, paint this. I'm trying to quit looking. I too served proudly during the quiet Reagan years of the 80's and I concur with your post.
I am at peace on my ride.... my heart and the motor beat in harmony.... the grin says it all. Everybody looks when you ride by, and from those folks who although may not ride, understand... you get a nod.

100%, Vic! I will tell you that you caught me off guard but I couldn't agree more. That's why I ride a Harley and that's why I love this country. (and I'm not even drunk.....)
