Default Clutch noise

For the last couple of days I seem to be getting a somewhat load whine from the clutch or transmission. It is real appearant when the bike is idling in neutral, seems to go away when it's in gear and the clutch is in. the bike is an 06 lowrider and I have just over 8000 miles, all service has been done, the last at 5000 miles. I starting to think that it may be a bearing........Thanks

I believe you are correct, it sounds to me like some bearing, question is though, which one? I'd take it to a shop for an opinion. IMHO

Well it turns out that a bearing was bad in the transmission. The dealer rebuilt the trans and did a great job, bike runs great and was as clean as it was when I dropped it off. They also put a new tire on the back since at 8300 miles it was about time.. I'm a little concerned though that it spun a bearing, I do my services correctly and on time using the recomended HP trans. fluid along with primary fluid and synthetic engine oil. The service manager said that mine was the first trans bearing failure that they had seen from a 06 Dyna...Hope it's the last.....

Was the the same bearing that Harley initially planned to replace every 15k on the '06 Dynas?

This was an internal bearing in the transmission, what Harley first planned to check at 15K was the primary tensioner,,,and yes, I did use the HD recomended trans fluid and primary fluid changed at 5000 miles. Honestly, I think it was just a fluke thing...just bad luck...

I to had abearing failure in my 06 Lowrider. It was the racer bearing and it produced a whine, especially in neutral. Dealer fixed it and it seems to be doing well. That was around 2,000 miles and I have put 1,500 on since then with no problems. I use Redline Shockproof Heavy in the transmission and Formula + in the primary. Service manager chalked it up to "infantile failure." Maybe I got a bad one.

Try some Redline Shockproof Heavy gear oil in the trans.

I don't think your bearing failure is a fluke.

My 06 Superglide has the exact noise you described. It has approx. 8500 miles on it, and the whine started about 1,000 miles back.

This transmission has always been rather noisey, but mostly when it gets warm/hot during a long ride.

I had Harley put syn3 in at the 1000 mile service, and think that was a mistake.

I am running Mobile1 75W-90 in the trans now, but think I will go to 85W-140.

From what I am reading across the web, we can all expect problems out of this trans.

Could be wrong. Mine was one of the first 13,400 made, and had the recall on it.

I love my SG and hope it doesn't turn into some kind of nightmare.

Thanks for posting the info about the clutch noise.

Mine 06 Bob just started doing the same thing. I have 10,300 miles on it. Did they charge you to repair it or was it covered under warranty? I run 85/140 in the trans and revtec hp primary. I can barely hear it over my pipes, but I can hear it if I put my head near the clutch side of the primary. It stops completely when I pull in the clutch. Anybody know exactly what bearing they were referring to in regards to the 15K bearing change?
