You're not crazy. A lot of people (myself included) that put on taller risers lift their headlights and mount the fairing higher. My headlight is about 6" higher than it came stock. Additionally when you lift the fairing higher you get more wind protection on your upper chest instead of just your stomach and lower chest. How mine is mounted currently keeps the wind from being redirected into my face as well.

Before with just the ness headlight block:

Now with the ness block and 4-5 more inches of headlight lift (white trash engineering):

Nice work! BTW, I used to live in Camarillo. Went to Rio Mesa HS. Way more people in Camarillo today than there was 84-88.

I'm going through boots like there's no tomorrow! I've considered those pegs to give me more cornering clearance, but am concerned whether there will be enough room for my size 11s on there - any feedback would be great! Thanks brother!

P.S. Also, oddly enough, I'm posting from Camarillo as we speak!

When I bought my bike the previous owner had converted to forwards. They were really wide too. I couldn't get on or off the freeway without scraping. I paid to have the mids reinstalled when the dealer was doing the false-neutral recall. I was concerned about leg cramping, but it has not been an issue. It's great to be able to ride the bike a little harder without dragging bits.

On the size of the pegs, I intentionally bought the short ones to lessen the chance of scraping, so I know I am giving up some of the support of a bigger peg. For someone who grew up strictly with floorboards it may be uncomfortable? I don't know. For someone who rides dirt bikes and sport bikes, these are still very large pegs in comparison. They have a bit of depth front-to-back which makes up for the lack of width. Truth be told I don't notice the pegs at all, unless I am riding with shoes/boots with a large heel. There's also a bit of grip in the pegs to hold your foot in place. I can stand up on the pegs just fine and I don't worry about my boot slipping off.

11's are going to overhang the pegs for sure. I wear 10.5's and they overhang, but it's always been that way. If you scrape boots now, you're still gonna scrape boots with the narrow pegs, you just won't scrape pegs as often. If you want to ride harder without destroying boots, you really need to jack up that suspension.

I suppose I don't mind destroying the boots less frequently than every 6 months Not sure I could ever bring myself to raise ol' Betty - she was meant to be slammed!!

Here is the OEM quarter fairing I fitted on my 2011 FXDB using Bung King adapting plates. The headlight is relocated using the spacer provided with the Bung King kit.
